I stumbled across a really wonderful love story of a girl who moved to a new country where she met the man of her dreams. She has written a lovely story of their meeting her guy and the challenges of changing countries

Ann's story

I love reading stories like this, does anyone else have any good links to share?

It's a nice story. :) I've read it once before.

Its amazing how many people meet online. The internet has really changed us, as human beings.. Marty and I would never have met if it wasn't for online games, and I know many of you guys have a similar story. Now we just need an easier way to be close to the ones we love, without the termoil of the immigration process. ;) That'll be the day.

Tacky lovey-dovey smilies time!!

I met my boyfriend online before coming here on vacation back in December 2005. I was real nerdy and went on myspace and did a search for people in Sydney. I just wanted to find some cool people who could suggest cool bars/restaurants and other things to do. Well, my boyfriend and I started talking and did so for about 2 weeks before I came here for my holiday.

We decided to meet up- thought it may be just be a fun vacation fling at the most.

2 years later... here we are, in love and living together. He is the reason I moved here and now call Australia my home.

I definitely found love online and I couldn't be happier!

How funny - your story sounds eerily similar to mine! I met my husband online in 2001, wasn't really looking for a relationship or love. I decided to meet him in person when I was passing through Sydney in 2003, just thought we'd have a few laughs and that's it... but the rest as they say is history. 8)

Yep, we met online (5 years ago). As did my dad and his wife, and it looks like my BIL has done the same as well.

Hey, that brings up a question I've yet to ask...(yeah, this part will probably be moved ;) )

Does the fact that you met online have any negative impact on the visa application?

None at all that I've noticed. I'm sure the case manager just rolls their eyes and says to their colleagues "We've got another online meeting!". I'm sure the story Marty and I told made no sense - not knowing the game or understanding the social context.. it all worked out well in the end - nothing about "how" we met was ever asked to be explained further! lol

Nobody at Immigration blinked an eye at us old people, either, we met in a "GeoCities 40's" chatroom way back in 1998, I think :headscratch:
As long as you've met IRL, and then produce a history together and document it, they have no worries :lurve: :goodonya:

My wife and I met online. She's very private and doesn't like to have personal info made public, so I'll just say it was a site involving writing and neither of us was looking for a relationship at the time. We'd known each other a bit over 3 years by the time we married here in California in March 2009.

I love the online love stories... I met my hubby online way back in 1996 and we met IRL 8 months later and 6 months after that we were married :) So we've been married for 12 years and been together for 13 in August. We have met people that met online back in the 1970's - she was in Alaska and he was in Florida. We also have friends who met online around the same time that we did - she was in NZ and he was in Canada. They are pg with baby #3. I have also met another couple - he is from Canada and she is from Aussie and they live up in Brisbane. Its becoming more and more common and immigration didn't blink an eye when we said we met online. A much different reaction then we got 12 years ago when we had to tell it to the American immigration.
