True Blue Mate Posts: 256 Group: Members** Member #50 Joined: Feb 18, 2007	Hi everyone. I’m another guilty lurker whose been browsing occasionally but haven’t mustered the energy to post. It’s been a while so I thought I’d say hi to everyone and let you all know we’re still hanging on in Melbourne! We’re both crazy busy with work, putting in about 50 hours a week and spending the weekends either catching up on sleep or hanging out with friends we’ve made. (Seriously, one other couple; she’s American and he’s Aussie). I hope they don’t get sick of us because other than them, we’re pretty limited on the friend front, which can be a curse and a blessing if that makes sense. Having said that, I recently joined the American Women’s Auxiliary so hopefully I’ll meet more people soon. We go back and forth on whether to stay or go back to the US. All I can say for sure is that we’ll be here at least for the rest of this year. My folks are coming in November. We have no “real” reason to leave so until we come up with one, like, we’re having a kid, we’ll probably be here. (And that’s not to suggest that I wouldn’t have a kid here...rather it would be a good ‘excuse’ to move back). Anyway, glad to see all the regulars are holding down the fort and the community continues to attract Yankie souls! Cheers all!

True Blue Mate Posts: 606 Group: Members** Member #4 Joined: Feb 18, 2007	Wow, fifty hours a week, I'd be going crazy! :eek: My husband and I don't have many friends either, we mostly enjoy keeping to ourselves, and we're both okay with that. My closest friend who lives in the States and I chat online or on the phone several times a week and my family is getting better about emailing and calling now as well, so I almost never feel lonely. Can't wait to go back to the US and see them all in person again, of course! :redpepper:

And I know what you mean about the blessing/curse thing when it comes to having friends around... I hope you can stay as long as you want, especially since you both seem to be so happy with your lives here. I'm really glad this has worked out and you are lovin' life in Oz. Yes work seems to be taking up a lot of our lives and things seem to fall by the wayside (which is not a good thing really). I have got a quiz night for school on Sat and I'm not even excited to go, I'm so tired (and since its about the only night out for me per year thats not good either!). So much for the Aussie stereotype of laid back life of shrimp on the barby and the beach! Sounds like we are all working way too hard! The funny thing is, I'm not sure why I'm doing it (well, other than the fact that I need a paycheck!). That's a whole other discussion though! :cheers:
