What would all the Melbournites think of having a big Thanksgiving meet-up this next time? If we all pitch in, we could go all out and even have turkey! (I've had the "Thanksgiving Chicken" the past few Thanksgivings. I'm sorta' hurtin' for some turkey!) I'd be more than happy to cook the bird(s) and my semi-famous stuffing, and we can make the rest a potluck if that suits. |

Okay, that's just plain creepy - I was thinking about that today as well! I'm more than happy to help with what ever. We had wonderful turkey last Thanksgiving - did em on the charcoal grill and they were YUM! And the pumpkin pies were extra yum. I'm even up to hosting at my place if people want to schlep to Upwey - we have a wonderful back deck that looks out from the Dandenongs. |

 I can vouch for the turkey last year.....it was definitely Yummo. Plus The Frank's kind of abandoned the Miller's (not intentionally). Don't forget the sweetpotato pie (I have an awesome recipe you can pull off the web). Hope you all have a tremendous amount of fun. Jennifer |

All right, kids! I will have the Thanksgiving shindig at my new place if that suits everyone.
I was thinking we could have it on Saturday, 24 November. (I know Thanksgiving is supposed to be on a Thursday, but I doubt we can all get that day off! If you can, let me know and I'll change the date to keep with tradition!)I was also thinking that if there are enough of us, we could all pitch in to get a massive turkey! I'm getting sick of doing the "Thanksgiving Chicken"! Does that sound like a good idea to everyone? This is what I usually cook for the event:Chicken (Turkey!) & Sage Stuffing Mashed Potatoes & Gravy Sweet Potatoes Pumpkin Pie Apple Pie Cranberry Sauce I'll cook the turkey, stuffing, and gravy, and we can divide the rest of it (and whatever else you think of!) up between whoever is attending. Just let me know if there's something you're allergic to so I can steer clear of it. So...who's with me?!

I'm sure you can count us in. I'll bring a pumpkin pie (or 2), whipped cream and a green bean casserole. |

Hubby and I are totally in! I'd like to make my yams (if I can find some normal marshmallows somewhere :& ) but I'm not sure if they're the traditional yams/sweet potatos that most people have each year at Thanksgiving. I can get canned yams at that American food store and I usually just put them in a dish, sprinkle with marshmallows and brown sugar and pop them in the oven until they're looking toasty. My mom made them that way and I love them! |

Just wanted to say that I know this is still a ways away, but Rob and I wanted to let you know that either Saturday or Thursday should be fine for us, so long as we know for sure very soon. Rob can only get one day or the other off and he has to roster it pretty soon, so just let us know! |

All right. I'm making an executive decision then.
Here are the details:DATE: Saturday, 24 November 2007 TIME: 5:00 PM PLACE: Nick and Devon's House, Tecoma (PM me for the exact address if you're attending) Nick and I have two spare bedrooms to house those of you who don't want to make the long drive back to your houses. We could probably put another couple in the front room if need be. You are more than welcome to stay the night, but let me know if you need to beforehand so I can make the appropriate arrangements. Here's the menu for the event: Turkey (RantingDev) Sage Stuffing (RantingDev) Mashed Potatoes (RantingDev) Gravy (RantingDev) Sweet Potatoes/Yams (Rissaroo) Green Bean Casserole (canaandownunder) Pumpkin Pie (canaandownunder) Apple Pie Cranberry Sauce If there's anything else that you would like to bring or think should be on the list, let me know and I'll add it to the list. If no one objects I think there are enough of us coming to be able to pitch in a little to get a big turkey. I'll go to my butcher a bit closer to the date to get a quote for it. Here are the people that are coming so far: RantingDev +1 canaandownunder & mistrfish +1 Angie +1 Rissaroo +1 If you would like to come, please PM me by Monday, 12 November 2007 so I have time to order the bird. Cheers! |

I was browsing the USA Foods website and checked the "specials" just for the heck of it. I found Ocean Spray Cranberry Sauce - Jellied. USA Foods calls it O/S Cranberry-Jellied. I was thinking of you guys getting together and thought you might want to grab some while it is cheap. The sale is 3 cans for $5 with the expiry set for Nov 07 (we all know canned stuff doesn't go bad that fast). Anyways, I do know that it sells out fast as Thanksgiving approaches. Here is the link if anyone is interested http://www.usafoods.com.au/specials.php I hope it helps. Jennifer |

Hubby and I don't have a car, so we'd have to take a train or a bus to get there...do you live within reasonable walking distance from any train stations or bus stops? |

We live about 15-20 minutes walk from Tecoma Station. It's on the Belgrave line. I won't lie to you: It's pretty far out there. But you two are welcome to crash at our place so you don't have to take the long journey back to your place that night. |

15-20 minutes? Pshaw, that's not too bad. We've gotten used to walking since we moved here. :p You'll just have to PM me the exact directions and your phone number in case we get lost. I'll talk to my hubby, but we probably won't end up staying the night, though we thank you for the offer!

I've sent out a PM about the Melbourne Thanksgiving Meet-Up to all of the Melbournites on my list. Let me know if I've missed you so I can add you to the list.
(Also, let me know if you would rather not receive these notices, and I'll take you off the list. No hard feelings if you don't.
) Please accept my apologies for being slow to respond to your messages, as I will be without Internet for a week or two starting Thursday. (Eek!)Looking forward to see everyone next month!

We're still coming, and hubby got the day off with no problems and has already mapped out our way to the train station near you, though it would probably be helpful if you could PM walking directions from the train station to your place as well as your phone number in case we get lost! :p Also still planning to bring yams; hubby and I will be hitting US Foods next week for the canned goods. Excited! :eggplant: :redpepper: |
