My husband was sacked from his job today. :(( I should've known something was up when they told him not to come in until 11am, then gave him the rest of the day off. Apparently, the higher-ups decided that the division had too many FT workers, and he'd been making mistakes recently, so... he's the one who got the chop. [rant=on] I cannot BELIEVE they did this to him! He was one of their best workers. He got an AWARD, a farkidy-farking AWARD, for his service last month. His evaluation was glowing. Why? Why now, right before we go on holidays??? Absolutely shits me. [rant=off] I know he's too good for them anyway, and trust me he is kicking himself for not moving on a long time ago when he had the chance. We are trying to look at this as an opportunity rather than a setback. Just sucks. Right before we go on holiday too. Bastards.

Tori- I am so sorry that happened to Kirk. Companies aren't what they use to be, are they? I will say some companies want you to be loyal but forget the loyalty being returned. This isn't every company I realize, but there are both Amercian and Aussie companies that just don't come across as caring about their employees anymore. Here are more.... :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: I certainly hope that you guys will have a wonderful holiday INSPITE of the rudeness. Just think most people say "I need another holiday just to rest from the holiday I just had." and you guys won't have to jump back into the "hussle and bussle" right away. I'm glad to see you're trying to keep yourself on the positive. Everything WILL be okay. Hey, it could be worse....you and Kirk could both be Americans tied to a visa that requires you to go back to the states because your sponsor is letting you go. Now that would really suck! :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: A few more for good measure to show how much you are thought of....we're hear for you as best as we can. Jennifer |

Oh that sucks big time! How awful! Feel free to rant...you have every right to. Would you consider moving back to Sydney if you had to? Anyway, with an award it shows that he has been a good worker (needs to mention it on his CV) and I'm sure that'll help him get another (and better) job. :hugs: |

Tori! I'm so sorry this has happened to you. :hugs: As Jennifer said, I don't understand how companies can ask their employees to give them 100% commitment, but then show no loyalty in return! It's soooo not right! But at the same time, Kirk doesn't really want to be working for a company that feels they can do that. I can relate to what you're going through Tori. Two months ago we were exactly in the same position as you find yourself in now. Scott got fired from his job at a cell phone store the week before we were going on our first vacation in 5 years! He too had glowing reviews and exceeded quotas every month. (The irony came about a week after he was fired. A card and letter was sent to him congratulating him for he three years of service with them! :arrgh: ) He was let go because a customer Scott served committed fraud against the company and Scott was the scape goat even though he had followed company proceedure. It was a nightmare for us. I was terrified because the last time he was let go from a job, he was unemployed for 4 months and we couldn't make ends meet. My initial reaction was to can going on vacation because I couldn't justify spending money we were going to need. But then I decided that we really did need that vacation and I didn't have the heart to take that experience away from my family. The last two months we've been battling them over his unemployment benefits. They tried to take them away from him. They stated that it was because he "knowingly broke company policy". Such utter @$)^%!! For the last month he's been sweating bullets over this. We would be required to pay back every cent we've received to date and no longer get the benefits if they win. But on Tuesday's hearing it looks like we won the battle. We won't know for sure, but Scott said they pretty much sunk their own ship at that hearing. Phew! Now we can get on with looking for a job. Anyway, I'm sorry for raving on about our situation. I just wanted you to know that you're not alone. :hugs: It's a frustrating situation to be in, but I hope Kirk finds a better job soon. Take care, Sandra |

Thank you guys SO much for all the hugs and words of wisdom. :hugs: :hugs: I really really needed it today. I agree that it's probably a blessing in disguise. After talking to Kirk some more, it sounds like they are shifting chairs on the Titanic. The guy who is taking over Kirk's job is THE MANAGER's PARTNER!!!!! Yes, folks, the manager will be managing her own partner. He was originally the manager of the BusinessDirect sector, which was discontinued a few weeks ago. But NO, we can't let HIM go, so he gets Kirk's job instead! :p I guess what pisses me off most is that Kirk gave them his loyalty. He helped them on his days off, he fixed their PCs, he took care of his customers... for three years, and it meant absolutely nothing. Nothing. Mels - it's weird... they technically gave him 3 weeks' notice, plus the holiday time, so his last day is actually sometime in mid-November. But then they turned around and said, "Oh, you can go home today and don't worry about coming in until you get back from holidays." :headscratch: I've asked again and again and he assures me that they will be paying him the whole time. Jennifer - you're so right, it could be worse. I remember that's what happened to your family not too long ago, too. :(( Paula - the thought of moving back to Sydney did cross our minds, however we *just* signed another 12 month lease on this place and we're really not keen to go through all the crapola of moving cross-country unless it's a golden opportunity. But hey, ya never know. Kirk still has connections down there. Sandra - OMG, Scott's situation and Kirk's are uncannily similar! How terrible of that company to shaft him for something that wasn't even his fault, and then try to deny unemployment benefits...grrrr... Thanks again everyone. It means so much. :hugs: |

Aw, Tors, I know how you feel, seeing how hubby and I just went through all kinds of crap with a company Rob was loyal to for four years! Amazing how they can just turn around and pull this on you without even thinking, "How is this going to royally screw with the lives of this employee and his family?" So here are my own :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: for you and I have my fingers crossed that it was all meant to be and that something really great will come your way! |
