Rutherford NJ, I'm visiting an Old yank mate for a few weeks who was stationed over here with the army some years back & then across to Kentucky Oklahoma then down to Texas.
You can get Fish'n'Chips at Long John Silver's in all those states, though the fish will be Alaskan Pollock
But on the bright side you can also try their Hush Puppies. 8)

You have to try the melting pot! It is the best fondue place ever!! We have taken a few Aussie visitors there and they loved it! There is one not far from where you will be. Rutherford is close to NYC so there will be plenty of places to check out and you will be amazed at the variety in the grocery stores! Another place you should check out is white castle, only because it's different from most fast food places:) have fun! I am jealous, that is not far from where I grew up!

Places that my Aussie friends loved while in the US:

Golden Corral
Cracker Barrel
Olive Garden
In -n- Out Burger
Waffle House
Any Chinese restaurant

Not 5 star cuisine but good basic food.

Hi Indy,

Nice list. Olive Garden is not bad at all, quite liked the food and service. I would also add if you see a genuine truck stop, pull in for a hearty breakfast one of those experiences you will be thankful for in my opinion :)

I'm sure I'm going to love hanging out in Rutherford for two weeks. :) Out of all the yanks iv meet.Iv found those from Neoow Jersey to be the most like Australians. Lay back relaxed & down to earth with the same sense of humour. They call it how they see it.Never worrying about class status & all that falseness nose turned up backstabbing . There just straight up front tell it how it is . you don't have to second guess what's on there mind.
