Just a bit of info for you folks that want to send dogs home, we did everthing our selves until the dogs reached LAX . Well I say our selves i didnt do a thing ,Chris did all the work her self. I think it saved us about a grand. Since we were not traveling with them we had to have a pet mover meet them at LAX to get them though customs and then in a kennal for there manatory 12 hours on the ground then put them on a plane the next day to Atlanta. They are safe and sound in our kennel at home.

So no quarantine stay in the US was required for them?

No, no quarantine to the States. :eggplant: We are in the process of figuring out who we will be going with to transport ours back. We have two cats and they will just be flying to LAX where we will pick them up. our costings are ranging between $1600-1900 for the two of them.

MstrFish, who did you end up going with and why? And were you happy?

We did it ourselves from here, to LAX but from LAX to ATL we used Pet exspress/ pacific pet transport. Yes they did a great job, the dogs got home alive so thats plus. We used Qantas to get them to LAX and they were great and the costs for them were $2760.00 for 4 large dogs. If you have anymore querys pm canaandownunder, she is my wife and can answer all your ?.

Hi all, I haven't been on in a while, but I thought I'd update:

Michael and I returned from a U.S. whirlwind tour on Thursday, with the dogs landing at Tullamarine Melbourne this morning. Everything went really smoothly from Houston to LAX, and the staff at the Houston airport were all really friendly and caring to both me and the pups Ralphie & Winston when I dropped them off on Wednesday. The folks at the Spotswood quarantine facility allowed me to visit with my boys this afternoon (even though I'm technically supposed to give them 24 hours to settle in, since they don't allow weekend visitation Joy and Kelly were graciously lenient :-) ) and they seemed not too much the worse for wear. Winston, my Springer Spaniel, was as staid as ever, and though Ralphie the Shih Tzu was a little too possessive of his plush octopus, otherwise he was chipper. They were both clean, and while Ralphie smelled very, very faintly of urine (they hadn't been bathed yet when I got there for my visit) I'm confident they made the trip with Qantas as smoothly as could be expected. R had a small laceration on one front paw, most likely from scratching at his crate, but otherwise they were both healthy.

As an aside, I had been told by Pacific Pet Transport that Ralphie, as a snub-nosed breed, wouldn't be allowed to fly the direct from LA to Melbourne on Qantas as they don't allow snub breeds. I was expecting both dogs to fly ANZ with a layover in Auckland, as ANZ will allow snubs. At the last minute, however, Qantas agreed to fly Ralphie, which meant a direct flight for them, and which I was much happier with.

All in all, after seeing my dogs relatively well adjusted after only a few hours in quarantine, I'd say it was worth the effort for me and them. 29 more days to go! :yaay:

We want to take our shelter dog and two cats, but need to rent a house for at least a year. I can't find any rentals in the area we are moving to (Maitland, near Newcastle) that allow pets. Any suggestions for finding the right house so we can move the pets? We don't have any good options here--the best might be just okay for the pets--and they would be split up.
