If you require a medical for your visa then there are specific 'immigration panel doctors' who perform your medical not your normal GP... see: http://www.immi.gov.au/contacts/panel-doctors/index.htm There's also a gauntlet of forms that are associated with the medical. We have an appointment next week for the medical to be done...it's going to cost $400 or so and another $100 if we want the Doctor's office to send in the paperwork directly. |

:headscratch: My limited knowledge on this is that it depends on where you are coming from, what you will be doing and what kind of VISA you will be getting. For us, my husband only needs a chest x-ray, and he's the one transferring there, my son and I both need that as well as a blood test and brief physical because we will be in a classroom environment. Hope this helps! |

Christina: Since you are applying from outside of Australia, then you will likely lodge your application first and then receive guidance from the Australian Embassy in D.C. on what next steps to take re: the medical exams (please correct me if I'm wrong, U.S. based applicants). The exception is with skilled migration applicants, who have to undergo their exams prior to lodging their application. Here is the guidance in greater detail: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/health-req...nts/index.htm#a Hope this helps! |

Thanks for the guidance, guys! I swear - I feel really dumb. I keep clicking around on that site and have such a problem finding the information I need... but everybody else gets those links just like that *snap*
So when I lodge my visa app... and supply the letter describing details about our relationship... is that also when I include photos and such? |

Hi C, You would include the statement about your relationship and add evidence(photos phonecards, etc) With your application. If I remember correctly it was listed in the checklist section on the actual application. There are some excellent resources here .Search exactly what others have submitted. It realy helped me. As soon as you send off your application with stuff, I would go ahead and send away for the police/FBI checks. Try to make an appointment for the panel doctor. This is called 'frontloading"... It really sppeds avarything up a LOT. When you get the notice that you have a CO ,they then usually ask you to go do your medicals. and send instructions and forms. (I had to wait almost a month for a panel doc appointment in my area ! ) If you have a Dr's appointment already and your FBI /police stuff is in the mail, you can just do it and be finished with it. Mine took less than 2 months... I was told 6-9 months minimum... I am 100% sure this speedy turnaround was due to the frontloading of the necessary stuff.I would probably be still biting my nails, worrying if not for the YDU gang who are willing to share their knowledge/experience... Good Luck ! |

Ooh that's really helpful - I already took my fingerprints yesterday, so I'll be sending them off as soon as I get a couple of photocopies made (I'm a bit paranoid of losing them lol). I just called my local panel doctor's office and they said they can't make an appointment for me until I get the form back from the CO. However, they also mentioned that they aren't particularly booked up so it shouldn't be a long wait ... that is, when I finally have my forms.

Hi there again!Ratfan has offered some excellent advice. Definitely "front load" as much as possible, which you seem to be doing with your FBI/State background checks (good onya!) Writing your relationship statement is another big task, so if you can motivate to do it soon, go for it. Your partner will also have to write one. What worked well for me & Sean (my husband), to ensure that we covered all of the bases, was to divide our statements into various sections: 1) Personal background (where/how I was raised) 2) How we met 3) Courtship 4) Meeting the Families 5) Marriage 6) Emotional Support 7) Children/Family Life Social Life9) Finances 10) Future Goals Some people submit more free-flowing essays, which are more pleasing to read, but we wanted to make sure we covered every aspect of our relationship that they might want to probe -- we didn't cover our sex life, but man, that would have made for great reading! -- and that our statements would run in parallel to one another.Another way to front load your application is to get your 888 forms started NOW. These are the declarations by at least two Aussie citizens who know you & your partner and can vouche for the genuineness of your relationship. The forms are simple to complete, but the people who complete them have to provide documentation that they are bonafied Aussie citizens. If they live in Oz, all they have to do is have a public official (which includes clergymen, lawyers, bank managers, a whole range of professions) certify that their documentation is a true copy. Sorry for the information overload, but keep those questions a comin'! ~ Kristen |

Kristen - Ohmigosh - I have to get the 888 forms, too? I thought that was just for the spousal visa... I have to do the same for a prospective marriage visa? LovingHans - I love that avatar of yours lol. Soooo adorable! <3 As always, thanks for the thoughtful words. |

Yes, you need the 888 Stat Decs for the Prospective Marriage visa, then AGAIN for the Spouse visa, and a third time for the Permanent Residency Spouse. Lisa |

sorry to hijack being a noob here at YDU... Being that my fiance's family have only seen us in person together and my family has only heard about it or seen pictures, I was under the impression it would be considered hear-say for my family to fill out 888. Nearly her entire family has written one out though and we included that with the app... do any of you know if this should be okay? The immi officers haven't been able to help with anything more than filing paperwork in my experience. :ta: |

Josh -- Only Australian citizens can fill out the 888s, so your family is in the clear. You did the right thing by having Jen's family fill them out. |

Just one more question (at the moment anyway lol), Jenn and I were instructed to buy stat dec's from a news agent for her family to write their own letters attesting (spelling?) to our relationship and not the actual 888's from immi.gov.au and get them notorized. That is what we provided with our app and I'm pretty sure it should be okay but now my brain-wheels are churning after all is said and done... daily I'm going over every last detail in my mind wondering if it'll be okay or not... stupid human emotions :smash: |

I'm not quite sure what this means.... can you elaborate? My fiance already emailed the 888 form (pdf file) to his relatives in Oz. I hope they haven't started in on them yet - I wouldn't want them to have to do double work... :o |

Christina: Don't wait on the 888 forms. Have them complete them now. They are not hard to complete, and the certification part for the 888 is a cinch if they are done by people living in Oz. All they need to do is complete the form on the computer or by hand, make a copy of their Australian passport (or another form of proof of Australian citizenship in their PRESENT name) and have an qualified person attest to its authenticity. This can be a doctor, clergyman, nurse, pharmicist, full time teacher, etc.) One page 1 of the 888 form, it lists all of the people qualified to do the certification of the 888. http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/888.pdf What Josh was referring to above (stat dec) is a statutory declaration. For instance, when Sean & I submitted our relationship statements, we did them in statutory declaration form at the suggestion of our Australian migration agent. Essentially, it's just a more formal way of presenting information, and there is formal space for it to be certified. Example (excerpt from my application): Statutory Declaration I, Kristen Middle Lastname, of X Hertford Road, Singapore do solemnly and sincerely declare as follows: 1. My name is Kristen Middle Lastname. I was born on xx May 19xx in Washington DC, US. I currently reside at X Hertford Road, Singapore with my husband Sean Middle Lastname and our two children, Juliet Middle Lastname and Heath Middle Lastname. My background 2. My parents are First Middle Lastname and First Middle Lastname. They met as university students at xxx University and have been happily married for just over 44 years. I have one brother, xxx, who is 20 months older than myself. I had a very happy and secure upbringing. Although we were never wealthy, my father made a decent living as a marketing manager for an insurance company. My mother stayed home with us full time and then went back to work part-time as a graduate advisor at a major university when Jim and I were in upper primary school. My parents were, and still are, very hard workers who place a very high premium on family time and education. Both my brother and I are still extremely close to our parents and to each other. I feel very fortunate to have such a loving and supportive family. 3. I am an honors graduate of xxx University, my parents’ alma mater, and earned a law degree from the One of the Final Four Schools. I have had a very interesting career to date, starting in the federal government and then ultimately shifting to working for an international management consulting firm. How I met my spouse 4. Sean and I initially “met” via the internet in August 2003. I have been a long time fan of Australian tennis and enjoyed going to the U.S. Open every year to cheer on the likes of Lleyton Hewitt and his countrymen. When a friend cancelled on attending with me, I posted a note on craigslist, an online community board, in New York City, to see if there was an Aussie in New York City who might be keen to accompany me to the tennis. I received about two dozen replies, but of all the notes, Sean’s email really piqued my interest. We struck up an email correspondence that quickly turned to phone calls. We simply “clicked” from start. Sean flew down to Washington, D.C., where I was working and living at the time, to take me out to dinner. Our first date was on August 23, 2003, and we have been a couple ever since! It goes on & on to cover each of the key areas that I mentioned above (meeting the families, courtship, marriage, kids, finances, etc. etc.) and ends with Signature: Kristen Middle Las Declared at Place On the day of 2008 Before me, Signature of Witness Name & Occupation of Witness Address of Witness *** Now, back to the 888 issue... Josh, as soon as you get your CO, I would ask him/her if the Australian family/friends declarations need to be on the official 888 forms. If your CO is a stickler, as mine was, the answer might be yes. To be on the safe side, you might want to ask a few of your Australian supporters to pull up their statements on line and be prepared to re-submit them on the official 888 forms. Thankfully, there are easy to complete! Hope I haven't confused anyone! |

Kristen, that has been a HUGE help. My fiance's family in Oz are more than happy to help - we got two volunteers to fill out the forms less than 12 hours after he first asked for help.
I see now what you mean about stat dec form for our relationship statements. So does that mean I have to get that "form" notarized, as well? Or can that witness just be a friend of ours? |

Oh! I forgot to ask - I know it says "as least two Australian citizens" have to fill out the 888 forms... does that mean it would be better to have more than two people fill it out? Or will I be ok with having just two people fill out the forms? |

Oh cool, so we'll be fine with only two forms... goodie! And I don't submit them until they are requested, right? I'm so excited - I got my Live Scan results back today (for the state)... and it said "no record" (gee what a surprise) Now I just have to get those other prints sent off to the FBI... |
