Hi guys- I got this email from USA Foods today (yes, I admit it, I subscribe to their newsletter!):

USA Foods requires short term help to assist us in a promotional
special at the Myers CBD stores in Brisbane, Sydney, Perth and Adelaide -
here is the criteria for the job:

- Must have a good general knowledge of American foods - a bit of a
foodie!
- You must love to interface directly with customers - people person
- Must be reliable for the days you are assigned to work
- Some stocking of shelves required
- There is no money handling (done by Myers)
- Neat casual dress required
- Commences 12 May - 1 June
- Normal business hours - late nights Thursdays and Fridays and
weekends are required
- Pay at causal rate about $17 - 18 per hr.
- Must have bank account for direct deposit of pay

Please specify days available to work - we hope to have 2 people
working per store on a rotational basis.

Please email or fax me us if you are interested.

Thank you for your continued support,
USA Foods

Okay, most importantly- they are coming here to Sydney?! Rock on!!! :)) Even if it is just for a few weeks.

Anyways, maybe someone out there looking for work can earn some money for a bit and get free food!

That is exciting news. I've been buying some things at David Jones- Jiffy corn bread mix, cholula sauce, cake mixes-- and I will be excited to see what Myers will be carrying. Any idea when they will be stocked with U.S. stuff?

If they paid in large sums of Baby Ruths it'd be almost worth flying to Sydney.

The way I originally read it, I assumed it was just a one-off thing, like a fair of international foods or something, but yea maybe they are permamently going to have a shelf. Hopefully with lots more stuff because I wasn't too impressed with the selection at DJ's. I'm guessing though that it sounds like June it should be stocked?!

I'll let you know if I get any more updates in my newsletters!

According to the ad you posted, the promotion will run from May 12 to June 1st. But it would be great if they decided to do it permanently! (well, great for you... we don't even have a Myer up here, hehehe)

Tors- As the person they contacted-- did they mention which locations in Sydney it would be at?

It said "Myer CBD" stores- so I'm guessing just the Myer on the cnr of George & Market Sts!

And Tors, that's true, it does "promotional special"- boo! I better stock up while they're here!!!

How do you accidently drive past something?

My husband constantly accidentally drives past stuff, and I'm always asking him the same thing. Ha, ha. He says my blabbing at him is too distracting.

Now, if I drove by an American food store at any time and did not go in, I would for sure say I accidentally drove past it.

I'd actually consider doing this for some extra money for a couple of months if it wasn't completely on the wrong side of town.

Pay at causal rate about $17 - 18 per hr.

My 18yr old daughter would be in heaven if she could make that kind of money. She's working part time in a supermarket making around $8/hr. She wouldn't know what to do with that kind of hourly wage!

In Australia!??!?! Or in the US? My impression of casual work in Australia was the wages were considerably higher than in the US, which is why I wasn't shocked to see the rate USA Foods was offering just for shelf-stocking!

In Canada. I know OZ pays more and I've told her that, with the hopes that this will be another positive thing for her to come and live there with us if/when we ever move back (hopefully soon). Right now, she's the one asking us when we're moving, she's ready to go and I hope she stays that way!!!!

An update on this: I was doing my Thursday night shopping last night and I went to Myer- coming up the escalator to the homewares section, I see what looks like our flag. And when I got to the top, it was the USA Foods store display, almost shining with a halo of light. Just kidding (the spread actually wasn't all that impressive). But I did talk to the woman setting up and got some more info: it won't be permanent (boo!), but Myer is doing a three-week special called something like "New York Style" and the whole store is basically "becoming America".

They're bringing in a New York cab (why??? how???) and they're going to have random people running up to shoppers singing Broadway tunes, and some specially designed dress from some famous American designer (I tuned out here, I don't follow fashion), and I guess the Naked Cowboy will be there?! She looked real excited like I should know what this is so I just smiled and nodded. But I have no clue. It sounds a bit OTT to me, but whatever. This starts Monday, and the impression I got was it would be at all Myers in the major CBD's.
