A buddy of mine has a red-nosed pitbull and I've been friends with the family for several years (grew up together) and they've mentioned the possibility of giving me one of the puppies from his next litter to keep as a sentimental addition to my new family.
I've been told that this can be extremely harmful for a newborn puppy... anyone have any experience with this?
Also, I've heard I would have to apply for a "dangerous animal license". I've never even heard of such a thing... I don't think I'll be able to accept their offer which is sad but maybe if I were able to have some light shed on the situation I could figure something out before its too late and I'm off to see the wizard.

Josh, HERE is the information package from AQIS on importing dogs and cats. it says:
Quote:

Animals must be more than 6 months old at time of export.

AND, there are several breeds that are not eligible for importation into Australia,
Quote:

Pit bull terrier or American pit bull

Well, it looks like you got the info you needed from AQIS. Sorry for not getting back on with the info about Pepper sooner. I went back through her records anyway, and it was actually the test for Ehrlichiosis that had to be repeated for her, not the lepto. So I guess I wouldn't have been much help anyway! But everything worked out for us, and I hope it does for you too.

Good luck!!!

I just wanted to keep everyone in the loop.... We decided to give PJ a re-test for her lepto a few days ago and apply for a 15 extension to let her into OZ if her bloodwork came back lower than POS 1:800. We just got the results back and her bloodlevels LOWERED! We are so excited!!!! We have to retest next week and if her levels are still in the range then she will arrive on May 30th!!!!!!!!!! i'm so so so thrilled.... finally- We're missing our girl! Will anyone else have dogs in quarantine in June?

PJ is still delayed.... she won't be coming until June 20th now... I feel like it's been forever since we've seen here... it's been since Feb 5th- i can't wait any longer! AQIS questioned one of her blood tests, so we have to re-do her Lepto again! AHHHHH!!!!

Really sorry to hear you've been delayed again !

I really miss my little friends a LOT and it's been about 12 days. My husband asked our friends to go and visit them already. They get out June 16.

If you're there already maybe they'll let you peek in on them after you get to see your girl?

I know they're fine but they've never been confined like that before. I hear my little old man is reserved but cuddling anyone who goes in to see him.
There is one woman there I spoke with who really seems to love them like they're her own .I am sure there are lots more nice people there but I only spoke with her about them. I hope she's assigned to your PJ when she gets in. :hugs:

there's no place like home.....
