Getting to Costco is no problem if I have a little bit of notice so I can get a ride from a mate with a car or if you don't have a big list of items, I'll get there on my own no worries. I could even bring it to you wherever you are in Tassie if you can allow me a little time to get it to you so I can do the same on this side and organise a ride.

I just can't bring back anything that is against quarantine rules of course. No fresh fruit, veg or plants.

And yeah Lisa! This is one of the great things about this job. I get to live on this little paradise of an island and still go shopping in Melbourne every second day :p

I have seen vented dryers for sale here but there are far fewer models than then non venting ones (most vent through louvers in the door). If one buys a vented dryer one will also have to put a vent hole in the wall or put the vent pipe out a window as most places here probably do not have a vent already installed unlike American homes. Condensing ventless dryers are also available that deposit the condensed water into a container to empty but still blow hot (but not wet) air into the room they are in. The ones I have seen cost over $1,200 too VS about $400 or so for a regular dryer. The good news is that dryers here plug into a regular (240 volt) household outlet and no special wiring is needed like in the US. I have only seen gas heated dryers in laundromats here and I dont think any are easily available for the home. I seldom use my dryer (found for free at the curb) because power here is so expensive (16 cents or so per KWH) and because I don't like the hot, moist, and linty air blowing into my place and condensation running down my walls and windows. Windows need to be open when using one of these ventless dryers and this can leave your home quite chilly here in Melbourne during winter. I now hang my cloths on folding racks and hangers and let my dehumidifier and a fan dry them cheaply and pleasantly instead. I warmer weather I use my building's shared clothsline. This might need to be split off into an Austalian cloths dryer rant thread now...
Wow!

You can't say this yet, you just left the land of cheap prices...you have to suffer here a bit so you can properly appreciate what you've missed.

Yes, there is quite a bit of feedback on Costco. Just look at the previous pages of this post which is now on page 7 already. Just click on the page boxes above the blue"fast reply" bar at the bottom of the page. You will soon learn how this board works and how to find the wealth of information on it and we are all happy to help!

This is interesting:
Quote:

Costco is seeking to establish it’s first Costco Wholesale in NSW and the opportunity to accommodate its Australian Head Quarters at 15-21 Parramatta Road, Auburn. The Capital Investment Value (CIV) of this project is $55.4 million.
Establishing Costco’s first outlet in NSW will allow the company to continue to pursue its program of investment in NSW. If the Costco model is successful, as has been the case in the UK, North American and Asian markets, Costco foresees as many as five outlets in the Sydney Region and others in the interior of NSW.

I know this thread is probably long dead, but I was searching the forum for diaper prices and found just what I was looking for!

If anyone is curious, I was at Costco in Maryland today and the diaper prices are considerably lower. Closer to $0.14 (american dollars) per newborn diaper rather than the $0.26 AU Kim photographed last August. Our pizza slice was $2 (american). I wish I could eat pizza instead of putting diapers on my little one as the price is more comparable.

I'm planning to bring my diapers with me, do you think customs will make me pay the 20%. I still think it will be cheaper. Do they determine the percentage on what you paid in the US or what it would cost in AU? Maybe I'll have to rethink my decision to import diapers.

Bring your receipt and they should charge it on what you paid, not what it would cost here.

Of course that's if they charge you anything at all. :)

Here is another article about the plans Costco has for Australia; specifically Brisbane and Canberra are the next locations for stores.
