I made "pumpkin" pie from scratch while I was in Melbourne. I took them to a Christmas gathering with friends who had never had it. They still rave about it and want it again. I had NEVER made a pie from scratch. It is possilbe to make pumpkin pie there. It just depends on whether you want the orange little sugar pumpkin or if you're willing to try using butternut squash pumpkin (they call butternut squash butternut pumpkin). |

Here in Melbourne I saw frozen turkeys at Aldi (on Inkerman - near Pastrycook!) for around $7 / Kg. They have frozen turkey breast roast, too - if you don't want a whole bird. I just picked up a big bag of frozen cranberries (I do my own cranberry sauce w/red wine - so delish) at Extra Fresh Fruit & Vegies in Bentleigh - but friends at school said I might also find them just at Coles or Safeway / Woolie's. At Extra Fresh I also saw vacuum-packed refrigerated bags of peeled ready-to-cook pumpkin (easy to then steam for pies) and sweet potatoes. |
