January 15 - Employer nomination submitted January 19 - Request for clarification of current visa status January 28 - Employer nomination approved February 2 - Sent off for FBI checks ($18 US each) February 24 - submitted application for permanent residency (with a few spaces left intentionally blank - included 4 passport photos, certified marriage certificate, certified copies of current passports) February 25 - received FBI checks (Whoops) February 26 - Kevin turns 45 and becomes ineligible to file for PR March 8 - assigned case officer and received request for further information: page 18 of the application form 47es (which I left blank), Form 80 character assessment, US Police Certificates (as per form form 47P), Australian Federal Police Certificates, and health checks (form 26 and form 180 - see also form 1071i)...we must respond within 28 days. March 16 - submitted FBI Certificates, Form 80, missing page 18, and Form 80 by mail - scheduled HAS medical checks for March 25 March 20 - received PHONE CALL from our case officer telling us she received our paper work and inquiring about the rest March 23 - mailed off request for AFP certificates ($43 each) March 25 - had HSA health checks ($271 each) - included urine tests, eye exam, blood work - HIV test - and chest X-ray. April 1 - received notification that Kevin's chest X-Ray showed an 'abnormality that may represent a previous exposure to tuberculosis'. Case has been referred to Chest Clinic at Royal North Shore (You know, that hospital where patients die in the waiting room and women have miscarriages in the toilet?) April 3 - recieve letter from Chest Clinic for follow-up appointment on May 13. Needless to say, Kevin is in a panic, though the letter said that if it was urgent or life threatening, they would have contacted him sooner...personally, I bet it is a scam to fish more money out of our pocket for an MRI or whatnot. April 6 - received Australian Police checks April 7 - received my HSA health check report May 13 - Kevin's Follow-Up Medical Appointment - a mere formality...there ain't nothing wrong with him...well, nothing an x-ray can detect... June 5 - Permanent Residence Granted - WHOOT! Edited by SanDiablo, Jun 7 2009, 12:40:44 AM.

Well looks like things were moving right along until the hospital thing. I gather it's a pretty crappy clinic yeah? Also wondering why you left some of your paperwork blank on purpose? |

My MIL says that she was told that she has a shadow on her lung and its from previous pneumonia. Maybe its something like that? They didn't say anything about his age huh? Good luck with all of it and I'm sure he will be fine. |

Thanks Paula - He has had pneumonia before, and several bad colds since we have been here. I am pretty sure it is nothing, but am still using it as leverage to try to get him to quit smoking! As for his age, he submitted the paperwork two days before his 45th, so he is fine on that one. And I didn't leave it blank on purpose...I'm just careless. |

I thought so too, Lookin, maybe she forgot the un on the intentionally Don't panic, Kevin, if you've never had a positive Mantoux test, you'll be right! My mother always had a positive Mantoux, but her chest x-rays were clear... go figure!

Oh, you're right...See, I am so careless, I don't even read my own replies...but that wasn't Page 18...we left the spaces blank that had to do with our criminal record because we did not yet have our FBI reports back and did not really know what to put down. We didn't want to look as if we were lying, but we couldn't remember the dates and charges and what not...so far, no word about that bit... |

Audra, did you guys send away to the US for your FBI record? I saw that they have an office in Canberra and a "sub-office" (whatever that means) in at the Embassy here in Sydney. I was hoping to just do it there, but wasn't sure if that was possible. |

LookingDown(Under) wonders if you have to put down like, traffic tickets. That clears off your record in three years in Nevada, and if someone asked me to write it all down, I would be like, I got one when I was 16 but the next one wasn't until I was 24 but then I got one every year after that until I was 27." I honestly could not remember when and where I got traffic citations if I were asked. |

None of that is Federal, on your FBI report, Lookin. If your State/Local report were to mention it, you'd have the option of appealing/contesting the fact that it's still on your record. We still don't know what Kevin *did*

Natasha, I think it's best to send directly to the FBI, that way you can put a "deadline" date on the outside envelope for the request

I just sent off my request for my record to the FBI today. I hope Kevin's didn't take all the paper thereby delaying mine.

Natasha - send away to the FBI directly. They have very specific instructions, although we managed to goof it up, but they sent Kevin an email and let him fax in a missing signature. They missed the deadline we set, but we completely procrastinated! No worries, Kevin - Kevin's wasn't THAT long. He had a misguided youth and got arrested a few times for theft over 25 years ago. All that is very far behind him, and he couldn't remember dates or charges, much less dispositions. Funny thing - he was able to find his one felony conviction through a county court website but it was NOT listed on the FBI report! That is the one he was worried about - didn't want to list it on the form if it may or may not be on the report! We were also involved in drunken brawl at a shopping center when we first got married 19 years ago, and again, couldn't remember the details...we've moved on and become responsible reasonably law-abiding citizens since then (except for that DUI - which IS on my report, but I can't imagine a history of drinking could be anything other than an advantage for consideration of immigration to this country!) On a positive note - our Australian Police Checks came back clean! |
