Look for streaky bacon. We can usually find it in the deli at the supermarket or at some butchers. You will be soooooooooooooo happy when you find it!!

I've seen it before - I think you can get it in the deli at some supermarkets.

I've also seen long cut bacon where you get both the strip and the wide, middle cut still attached. Tammy gets these, cuts them in half, gives me the strips and keeps the middle cut for herself.

Middle or streaky bacon :) I cut it in half since it's so long, and put a little canola oil in the frying pan. It crisps up very nicely. I'm going to try it on the Foreman grill to see if it'll do it without the oil next time I make it though! It tastes enough like the real thing to make me happy :)

I know, Trix, I miss it too, but this is a close sub for it. Now I have yet to find bologna, and I'm afraid to try the hot dogs! LOL!

make friends with a butcher that'll slice it exactly that way, Suzer ;) Some get whole bacon-sides in, and cut them, themselves, it's not rocket science, I used to make my own bacon, from tiny newborn-piglets, that stood up to ANY Oscar or Hormel 8)

well, NO, I delivered and GREW the piglets into 220-pound creatures, before I cut them up and cured them

Anyway ( about the triple-post) I can understand why you haven't made friends with a butcher, Suze, since you've been going vegetarian, at least on your recipe-site, so have you tried Sanitarium's fake bacon, or are you looking for REAL MEAT?

Me, veggie...no way! I just like balance, so I throw in one or two veggie meals a week. I'd never give up my bacon;)

You can't find Bologna, because it's not called that here:)

You're looking for Devon in the Deli. There is no sealed bulk packs of it like the US. At least not here in Sydney that I have seen in the supermarkets.

The OK-est hot dogs are the Hans skinless. A company called Don used to make hot dogs, but the stores around me stop carrying them or Don stopped making them.

in south aussieland, there is no such thing as devon. our equivalent is called fritz. you can either buy pre-sliced, or bung. chapmans bung fritz (orange skin) is the best, but to a non-south aussie, its an acquired taste.

Over here in WA it's called polony. I think it has a different name in every single state.

As an American bacon substitute, we'll get our butcher to slice up some speck (you can often find smoked speck, too). They'll slice it up just like the bacon that we're used to and it's virtually identical.

I think I need to put a disclaimer at the bottom of all my posts now:)

I somehow think if Oscar Meyer decided to open an Australian branch, they would send market researchers to see what the local bologna/hotdog market is like and modify their products to the Australian taste, so I think you would still end up S.O.L., LOL.
