mtnrun, I've just stumbled across a Riesling from Frogmore Creek in Tassie. This one was a super-sweet FGR riesling (Forty Grams Residual-sugar) that would be a cracker with some serious Thai. It was a winner for that style. Spent the weekend up in the Hunter Valley, visiting quite a few of the cellar doors. Krinklewood was probably our favourite - we were pretty impressed with the whole range. |

I'm not an expert by any means but I do love a good red, particularly a Tassie wine so it was nice to see this wine get some attention ![]() I'm quite fond of Ninth Island Pinot Noir. It is said that Tasmania produces high quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines because of the extremely cool climate. |

Thanks DS6540, I'll have to give that one a try next time we cook up some spicy foods. I'm still trying to get into Rieslings and have only found a few that I like. The Hunter is great, I used to work for a couple of wineries and have gotten to know quite a few of the cellar door people so if you make it back up let me know and I'll throw out some suggestions. |

New Zealand makes some fantastic rieslings. I think one is called 'secret stone" and a few others that I cannot think of. I'll try to get the names for you over the weekend when I have time. |

Has anyone been to any wineries in NZ's South Island? I'll be there next week (Around Central Otago), and I'm wondering if people have recommendations. Thanks! |

Well I start my wine tasting\appreciation course tomorrow night. I'm really not sure what to expect. I shall report tomorrow night what I learn. BTW...in preperation for my course, I'm drinking a south island sav blanc. Quite tasty. |

Well I'm coming up to week two of my wine course. I was going to try and post some info that I learned by will need to scan it and post when I can get more time. Mostly I've learned about how temperature can change the character of white wines and that they also not really need to be served cold. I did get a nice aroma wheel that can help one decipher the flavours they are tasting. All in all a fun time so far. I've been told to bring flute for tomorrows class. Sounds interesting. Bubbly anyone? Haven't touched the reds yet but I'm really anticipating that one. Speaking of red, I was out for dinner the other night and asked the waitress to recommend a bottle of red to go with out steaks and lamb. Has a bottle of "chris hackett" cabernet sauvignon. Wow was brilliant. Then to top it off, he just happened to be dining there. Turns out he lives right down the road from me. He's going to sell me a carton of it for $120. |
