Last Friday night after work, I posted 4 envelopes 1 to John, 1 to Virginia vital statistics, 1 to PA State police and 1 to the FBI. I go to my mail box today expecting possibly the one from VA since the check cleared my account on Wednesday but much to my surprise, my FBI report was there. It took a matter of 8 days to get this back :yaay: I was expecting this one last and was thinking "oh crap, what if its' not here by July 20th..... Theres one more thing of my list and stamped "DONE" :partydots:

Fantastic!
Last time I did an FBI check (over 2 years ago), the wait time was 16-18 weeks. Glad to hear it's much faster now!

I forgot to mention....I never put a "NEED BY" date on it. I sent it plain with no deadline. I am amazed...lol

My fingerprints were rejected as being too poor in quality three times (the third time being taken by the branch expert at a local FBI office). I should start thinking about a life of crime.

Way to go! Mine took a month, but they were very friendly about it.

I was expecting the FBI one to take the longest and it only took 3 weeks total posted from Oz.

I'm sending my FBI one out Friday, but I've put a date of mid-July on it. I may change that if we can manage to file earlier though.

I am a bit confused about one thing.. do I just need the FBI check, or do I also need to get one each from Maryland and Arizona?

I waited 4 weeks for mine, and that included the time for sending a second set of prints because my first set didn't contain all four fingers simultaneously taken from both hands.

I didn't want to start a new thread for my question. so it can kinda fit in here...

I was orginally going to submit my fiance visa application in March 2009 but that got pushed back to June 2009. I had my fingerprints done in January/Feb. By the time i get my visa (*fingers crossed*), move to australia, get married in april 2010, and apply for the spouse visa those prints are going to be over a year old. Is there an expiration date on background checks? Will I need to get my prints done again for the second part of the fiance visa?

Thanks!

I'm confused. Why would you need a check from the state you lived when you are getting an FBI check. Wouldn't and FBI check have all the information?

The short answer: No

The long answer: The FBI doesn't go checking with every single state in the US to see if you have a record with that state. Because records STILL aren't consolidated in the US (as far as I know anyway), the FBI check just shows that you don't have a federal record or anything that's managed to make its way to the FBI.

That's usually good enough for Immigration. I went ahead and got an Oregon check done anyway, because I was missing a police certificate from Nicaragua and I wanted to bulk up that area of the application. Some case officers seem to want them and some don't seem to care. Dunno what the "right" answer is.

Personally, they're like 40 bucks, you're already getting your prints done anyway, so unless you're from Arizona you might as well just get a few cards and send the state level off as well so you can look like you're on top of everything. :)
