I was at foxnew.com website today, catching up on the news and what not and I see this story....

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,532241,00.html?mrp

After reading it I think to my self...No way...who would take a toilet bowel lid and throw it through their window in a hotel??? so curiousity got the best of me and I go to youtube and search it.... Here was the one they were referring to...and there are a ton more.....needless to say, I sat at my desk and had tears in my eyes to think this actually happened not once, but many many times....

That actually reminds me of an episode of Law & Order: SVU with Robin Williams. In short, his character called a fast food restaurant and convinced the manager to strip search a female employee and hold her there until a fictitious detective arrived. It's amazing (and sad) what people will do just because a voice on the phone tells them to.

Like alot of L&O episodes, this one was based on a true story. It was featured on Primetime a few years back and they interviewed the employee. Poor girl, it was so sad to watch.

Out of curiosity I just searched to find the outcome of her case. Coincidentally her case went to trial and she was awarded $5 Million yesterday. Just in case anyone was following this story and wondering whatever happened....

I couldn't see myself falling for any of those pranks, as I have too much common sense and I am a somewhat logical thinker. "OK, sure thing mister. First may I ask, just how is shattering the windows going to prevent the spiders from getting into my room?"

I heard about the hotel room story on the local radio yesterday. The morning show crew couldn't believe anyone was that gullible (closer to stupid, really). It's either a creative story to cover up them trashing a hotel room or they really are that dumb. In either case, it doesn't make the guest look all that great. I guess the phone records will decide if they are stupid or just want to appear stupid.
Trouble is inevitable, but misery is not.

I saw the link to this hoax story, and it made me think of the recent "balloon boy" hoo-hah in Colorado. There was a hoax that suckered the entire U.SD. news media! People, including reporters who are supposedly sceptical, will fall for all sorts of BS. It's a sad thing that even after there has been so much widely exposed fakery -- invading Iraq and killing hundreds of thousands of people because of non-existent weapons of mass destruction, anyone -- it's still so easy to pull the wool over everyone's eyes.

Frank Rich, a well-known columnist for the New York Times, has a good piece on American credulousness:

Madness, meanness and pure farking genius
