Has anyone else seen "My Sister's Keeper" yet? I had some time to spare around midday today, so I decided to see it. UGH! That one calls for an entire BOX of tissues! It is such a beautiful, incredibly well made film. I very highly recommend seeing it if you haven't. |

Have you read the book? It's one of my favorites (except I HATED the ending with a passion). Haven't seen the film yet, but will in the coming weeks. |

Googled and found the author's site: http://www.jodipicoult.com/my-sisters-keeper.html Very interesting. Lots of ethical issues too. |

Ooooh, Nat ... or Tash ... or whoever you are ... Tors' link says the movie ending is different than the book ending. Maybe you'll like the movie ending better. I haven't read the book or seen the movie, so I can't comment with any insight or knowledge. But I can still comment.

I can't just read her books and the premise for this one... makes me shy away. It bothers me. I really, really bothers me. |

I've read several of her books as well... I also highly recommend The Pact. They are all about ethical/moral/legal issues. Kim (you can call me whatever you want, haha!), I heard that!!! I am really hoping it IS better! I really, really hated the ending of the book- too tidy, wanted to throw it out the window when I was done. Same way I felt about the Da Vinci Code. |

I read the book and saw the movie all within a few weeks of each other. Loved the book- sad yes, but great. Movie WAS good but I had a hard time enjoying it because it was SOOOOO different from the book. I understand when movies deviate a bit from the book- but this was excessive. I think I would have liked it a lot more if I hadn't read the book. Natasha- I'm reading the Pact now. It's good but not keeping me as enthralled as I was with My Sister's keeper. |

"In this contemporary tale of love and friendship, Jodi Picoult brings to life a familiar world, and in a single terrifying moment awakens every parent's worse fear: We think we know our children… but do we ever really know them at all? For eighteen years the Hartes and the Golds have lived next door to each other, sharing everything from Chinese food to chicken pox to carpool duty-- they've grown so close it seems they have always been a part of each other's lives. Parents and children alike have been best friends, so it's no surprise that in high school Chris and Emily's friendship blossoms into something more. They've been soul mates since they were born. So when midnight calls from the hospital come in, no one is ready for the appalling truth: Emily is dead at seventeen from a gunshot wound to the head. There's a single unspent bullet in the gun that Chris took from his father's cabinet-- a bullet that Chris tells police he intended for himself. But a local detective has doubts about the suicide pact that Chris has described." |

So right about needing a whole box. I snorted/sobbed for the majority of the movie. I have not read the book, and usually like books more than movies, but my friend explained the ending in the book to me and I think I like the movie ending more?

I'm almost through Nineteen Minutes, it's gut-wrenching, but beautifully written! (P.S. Dev, you probably REALLY don't want to read this one, it concerns a school shooting and I know that's a painful thing for you) |

I do love some Jodi Picoult, A is also a big fan, I think between us we have everyone of her books. Really make you think and cry. I think "my sisters keeper" the movie was good in its own right, but dont think of it the same as the book, the book was not only richer (as they tend to be) but it was so different it was like it was a totally different story. I think if you can separate them as different works they are both ok. |

I saw it on my flight back to the states last year.Great movie, but an airplane is not a great place to watch this one unless you like crying around strangers.Which I don't.I felt like such an ass lol. |

Hey, Michelle, I felt like more of an ass watching it on my trip back from the States last year, the flight attendant shook me awake because I was coughing so badly, handed me a mask to wear, and evacuated my row, and told BNE I probably had Swine Flu and needed to be quarantined when I got off the plane. So I already had reason to cry........

I'm reading 'The Pact' right now as well! Picked it up from an Op Shop for $2.99! When I'm done I'll give it back. I've been sailing through... have about 50 pages to go. It's brought up all sorts of strange feelings in my tummy that I'm not sure I would have had if I didn't have a child. |
