Hi Everyone, Just wanted to let all you hungry Americans know that Buppa's Bakehouse is a new bakery in Newtown Sydney that is 100% American style made by an American. I do all the baking myself and use American products when available. All the things you've been craving but can't find here are now available. All sorts of choc/peanut butter combinations, NY style bagels, cheesecake, fruit pies, cookies etc. I will be catering for all the American holidays. In the next week or so I'll also be selling soda, candy, seasonings etc. Huge news....Ben and Jerry's is finally launching in Australia and I have been one of the few places that is going to be selling it as of mid-end October. It is a limited range for now so check our Facebook site soon to see the flavours that will be available in the future. Become a fan on Facebook to find out what will be available soon. Howdy Folks, Sadly the flavours of B&J's are limited when it gets released in October. There are only a select few places allowed to sell it and again I think it will just be Melbourne and Sydney for a while until it gets released in other cities. Not sure if my mailing it would work! Also, anyone in Sydney up for some proper Halloween festivities done the over the top American way??? I'll be decorating the place and everything should be Halloween themed that I'm selling. Expect candy corn, pumpkin, spooky music, costumes, trick-or-treat. Bring the kids as it should be a fun day for everyone. More updates will follow on Facebook. Expect the same craziness for all American holidays. |

I went by today and met Buppa. It was great conversation and amazing food. We sampled the Ugly Cake, Blueberry Cheesecake, Chocolate Chip Cookies, and took bagels to go. No Ben and Jerry's yet, so I'll just have to go back later. Even the coffees were perfectly done. Would very gladly go back, and will be back the next time I'm in Newtown. Absolutely amazing. Matt (who's Aussie) even says he's found his new favourite bakery/coffee shop. She offered to keep the place open weird hours for us if we wanted to have a YDU get together there. I don't think we'll need the weird hours, but would like to suggest that we have a Sydney get together there soon! |

Hey Blarg - we stopped by yesterday as well. We went there right after lunch, about 1:30. You must have gone earlier because by the time we got there, there was only one bagel left! We sampled the ugly cake and the rabbit (carrot) cake. Buppa and her hubs are very nice, everything was delish, we'll definitely be back! |

Thanks to everyone who came in yesterday. It was nice to meet you all and I hope to see you again soon. Sorry...I do make sesame seed bagels, poppyseed, chive, garlic, cranberry, blueberry....but I make them fresh and sell them straight away so at the moment no thoughts on shipping them anywhere. I don't want to add preservatives or compromise on quality but if there ever was a way to maintain quality and package and ship them I would. Blarg and Anater- thanks for the compliments. Just let me know when you'd like to hold a get together here. |

*sighs sadly* Oh well... I guess I do have to learn to make them. You would not *believe* what passes for bagels in Kal! I don't care for blueberry ones, and I don't think I would get them even if I did. I swear they put blue food dye in the things! I keep asking every bakery we're in to make/order sesame ones, but no luck. |

Pamm, I completely understand what your saying about the bagels here! That's why I'm making them myself. The blueberry bagels I make are not dyed blue...they have chunks of real dried blueberries in them. I hate those dyed bagels! Baking Motto: If it can't be done right, don't do it at all!!!!! Breadwise, I am currently also trying to come up with sourdough bread that actually tastes sour unlike the Australian versions. It's a shame you're not closer to the shop. If you ever get to Sydney, stop by for a chat. |

So, did these guys make bagels "right"? http://www.einsteinbros.com/ They were the only bagels I would buy in the US. Cheapish, yummy and the best cream cheese mixes:) If your bagels are like their's (or better) I'm in:) Greg |

You can count on in, Buppa Funniest thing, I was just telling Dad about sourdough bread the other night! I plan on searching for a starter recipe and making my own eventually |
