Hi all, just wanted to rant a little.. sorry lol. Cant seem to get over my worrying and its really taking its toll. I even started smoking again. I applied for my Onshore 820 on Sept 2 09( just a few days ago). For some reason i am just paranoid they will reject me, and when they say 6 month wait to find out, Im gonna go nuts. I came here in Sept 08 a year ago, acutally applied for my visa on the day of expire of my WHM 462, My partner and i have lived together for one year. and been together in an ongoing relationship for 2 Came to Australia for a year to see how we would live together. (She didnt know if she wanted to live in LA or Melbourne). We gave plenty of evidence of this as well. We spoke to a lawyer in Jan 09 and learned about the 820 onshore and started preparing. We didnt use a lawyer when we filed though ....I cant really talk to her about this becasue she is convinced everything is fine.. Just wondering if there are any others out there going through this like me.. the stress...

Cheers
Wally

I went through it as well. My visa got granted and all. :-)

You'll be amazed at how short this waiting time will feel once you've had your visa for a few months.

I have been waiting for about ten weeks for my approval and I'm also going crazy!

I have a little plaque at home that says something like "If a problem has a solution, then what is the use of worrying? And if a problem has no solution, then what is the point of worrying?". Or something along those lines! Regardless, the point is- there's nothing more you can do now! So why waste your time worrying and stressing about it? It's out of your hands now. It will work out in the end exactly as it is supposed to. Which is what I keep telling myself :)

Good luck, stay strong!

Wally? :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:
you are SO lucky to be waiting in the same country as your wife, and be TOGETHER!!! :yaay:
There are many of us that were separated for months and over a YEAR, while going through the same process.
Natasha is right. My Aussie husband taught me the same... if there's NOTHING you can do about it, WHY STRESS???
Listen to your lady, she sounds pretty SMART! ;)

Thanks guys, Just very nervous reading all this Intent stuff on other forums..i came over here to be with her thats obvious...Immigration isnt stupied. but i never even heard of an onshore 820 until well after i arrived on my 462 WHM.. .. We always figured if things worked out living in the same house (cause you really dont know a person until you live with them) we would deal with me staying here or her coming back to the U.S.A.

So, stop stressing. You've covered all the steps, nothing you can do now, but WAIT.
Well, YEAH, you CAN make her REALLY sick of you, in the meantime!!!
Relax, Hon! :hugs:

Wally, I came here on an ETA, went from that to a 457, and now have my temp interdependency.

So basically came here on vacation and never left. People come here and their intent can change days after they enter the country. Mine did. I met my boss and realised there was an opportunity. They respect the fact that situations change.

The only denials I've heard of personally were related to omitting information intentionally from the application (so falsifying it), and not meeting the requirements for the visa (in that case they were 1 day short of the one year period that's required).

Relax!! If they're going to deny you, then worrying about it isn't going to make it any easier when it happens. And if they're going to approve you, then the worrying didn't help you either.

See if you can distract yourself from it by doing some out of the house activities!

Wally, I came on a one-year tourist visa, and we got married. Talk about *nervous*! We did the filing for the 820 in person, and I was so nervous that I couldn't find a certificate I knew I had in the pile! I'm still waiting to hear *poiints at sig* and everytime I go to the mailbox, my heart is in my throat.

I'm trying hard *not* to think about it, others have done it and gotten their visas, but dang it's hard! :)

A gym is good :) That's one of the first places Jason and Mum took me, and I *love* the heated pool and spa. It's wonderful for my arthritis too! And I love the people there, I've actually met a lot of lovely people, even grocery clerks who remember us :)

Anything is good. :lurve: Riding for the Disabled always needs horse-walkers, the dog rescues need dog-walkers and poop-scoopers, the soup kitchens need cooks/servers/washers, there's a million things you can do, to take your mind off the wait! :yaay:

yeah, too bad they don't take volunteers, and only hire citizens, aye? ;)
My Aussie husband has had several co-workers that switched to Immigration, and switched back to any OTHER govt job within a veeery short time, cuz there's such a mess, there....
Be patient. They work it out, in their own good time! :hugs:

Nice to hear of others that have gone through/are going through the same thing as my girlfriend. Me met traveling July 2008, and have been doing the long distance thing ever since, visiting each other for about a month at a time when we can afford it. She's from Melbourne by the way.. I'm looking into moving down there, and I'm trying to piece together the steps to take if I plan to stay down there. Right now I'm thinking the working holiday visa because would like to def stay longer than 3 months on the ETA, then possibly apply for the De-facto 820. The 457 might not be a bad idea, if I can find someone to sponsor it...my girlfriend's step father owns a business so could be an option. Anyways, the only thing that worries me about the work and holiday visa is the one year thing, and if I would need to apply for the bridging visa toward the end while waiting on the next visa to come through. Any suggestions?

I applied for the 820 on the very day my visa expired, well it expired 12 midnight on that day... After that my bridging visa took over and i have been on it ever since.

Wally, when you applied for the 820 that last day, did you also apply for the bridging visa as well, or does it go into effect once you submit the 820?

Well then, that's easy enough..haha. I'm thinking working holiday will allow for us to both be together and see how things go, then apply for the de-facto as you've done. When we've visited for three separate one month visits, we're not sure if the immigration will classify this is 'living' together time toward the 12 month period, so we'll probably do the exact same thing and apply for the 820 on the very last day of the visa.

Maverick= I just sent you a message. THe 3 separate visits most likely won't count unless you can prove that the times away from each other were just temporary (you were LIVING together but had to travel overseas, etc.). You can apply before the last day of the visa. We had a freind who did it about 1-2 weeks before her working holiday ran out. Make sure you make the apt well in advance and they will understand if it hasn't been a FULL 12 months.
