 Hi there,

I'm new here and am wondering if there is a difference if I file for permanent residency in Australia or out?

Can I work once I get to Australia if I'm married to an Aussie w/o a Visa???

Any help is greatly appreciated. BTW we're are moving to Perth after July 2010 :woohoo:

Thanks!

Which visa exactly will you be filing? If it's a spouse visa, there was just a discussion on that very subject: right here

Some more details about your situation would help us answer your questions.

Oh, and :welcome:

You need SOME sort of visa for yourself, to move here WITH your Aussie husband :headscratch:
Regardless of your marriage and kids, you cannot "move" to Australia, without a visa, just because HE is moving here!
The "correct" thing to do is apply now, "offshore," for a Spouse Visa. Then you won't have a problem moving here, with your husband.
With a Spouse visa, you have full work rights when you get here.
I'm having the same problem as minx, understanding what you're asking. You CANNOT just "move" here on an ETA or Tourist visa, because your husband is a citizen.

Also, the kind of visa you get determines whether you can work or not. Your marriage has nothing to do with determining whether you have work rights here. It allows you to apply for a spouse visa, which would allow you to work, but it doesn't just let you work.
