I just discovered, from what I can tell, 15 oz of the Le Mer cream cost $1,000 more (at least) in Australia than it does in the U.S.! Is that right? |

Now I cannot find the site I saw that had the 15oz for sale in AUD. The sales lady at Saks tried to tell me that the markup was 5x in Australia but I found a site on the web that sold the large jar for $2300 instead of $1300 here. Now, I cannot find the site. But even on the official site you gave, the 30 ml is the 1oz equivalent in the US, which sells here for $130, instead of $250 AUD, and the the 60 ml is the 2oz equiv, which sells here for $230 instead of $440 AUD. That's $143 and $153 AUD after you convert the currencies. Looks like they only sell the 2 small sizes in Australia. Still, this is quite a premium added for importing the stuff into Australia. |

ahhh, I get it! When I went to the US site it saw my ISP and automatically put me on the AU site, no wonder the prices looked the same! Yeah, get used to it! Either products aren't available here, or you pay big bucks to get them, or you find a reasonable facsimile!

I was just going to say the same… get used to it. The mineral eye shadow I buy back home for US$13 is A$45 here! I buy all my make-up when I'm back home, as much as I possibly can anyways. |

Designer cosmetics/shampoo/perfumes etc in my experience are 3-5x the price here. Whenever I go back to the US, I take "orders" from Jen's family for Clinique and whatever else. |

I just have to say it... face cream that is $2300?? Are F*CKIN' kidding me?!? Do people actually spend that kind of money on lotion?! You could feed a family of five for a month with that kind of money! |

Crazy I know but no, I am not kidding. Yes, people do spend that kind of money on moisturizer. I do NOT. I was stocking up on my favorite eye liner in preparation for my move and the lady at the counter was targeting me for Le Mer. I let her give her spiel as I found it quite captivating, especially the unproved story of how the formula was invented. She claimed that JLo slathers this "miracle broth" (yes, that is the term Le Mer came up with) on her (as well as her twins') whole bod(y)/(ies), using it essentially as a body lotion. She also claims many Hollywood stars won't use anything else.....she gave the spiel with zest. I like to listen to sales pitches - I do find them interesting because there is such an art to it. I also didn't appreciate being targeted for Le Mer. Why? Does my skin look old? Am I starting to sag? To which my husband vehemently denied since he was suffering from shock after he asked her how much this stuff costs. Poor thing was with me shopping and had to listen to the whole thing too.Anyways, she was trying to tell me that I should get the 15oz creme for $1,300 while I am in the U.S. since it costs 5x that amount in Japan and Australia. I unfortunately had explained that I was moving to Sydney and that's why I was stocking up no my eyeliner pencils. Of course, being the freak I am, I audited her by checking online to see if in fact it costs $5000+ instead of $1300. Note: I admit I spend $26 on an eyeliner pencil and hence have to go to Saks to throw away my money. I justify that kind of spending because it is a damn good eyeliner. Plus, since I wear no other makeup besides eyeliner (and only then, not so often), I save money by not having to buy any other makeup. |

Hey, no judgment on a $26 eyeliner pencil from me. The most I've ever spent on something makeup-related was $350 on 1.7oz of face cream. Talk about throwing money away ... My mascara costs $24 at Sephora. I haven't priced it here in Australia yet, mostly out of fear.

La Mer rocks! I buy it at the duty free where it's about the same the world over. I know, it's silly, but don't knock it 'til you try it. Plus, you'll need a good moisturizer here in oz, La Mer or otherwise. The sun is very harsh on your skin. I really miss Sephora................ Edited by jenbrooklyn8, Oct 19 2009, 08:47:10 PM.
