Nov 18, 2009: Application for Migration to Australia by a Partner (Form 47SP) and all accompanying Documentation sent via 2-day FEDEX to Aussie Embassy in Washington D.C. :woohoo: Federal criminal background check request received by FBI today.
Nov 19, 2009: Random pregnancy test discovers we're pregnant with our first child - surprise! Puts a bit of pressure on the processing timeline that's for sure - this kid's gonna be an Aussie whatever it takes.
Nov 20, 2009: Application packet signed for (received) by Aussie Embassy in D.C. at 8.38am
Nov 30, 2009: Cashier's Check for the $1,280 USD application fee cashed by Aussie Embassy
Dec 4, 2009: Received email from Aussie embassy confirming receipt of application and assigning case officer (NP). The email requested that we now provide police background checks (State and Federal), that Brant get his medical exam done and that we complete and submit Form 80 (Personal Particulars for Character Assessment). The email from the embassy included a scary statement that processing may take 6 months - we are of course counting on the fact that it will only take half that time.
Dec 8, 2009: Medical exam done today at a cost of $324 (ouch! - of course those b*stards won't accept any insurance coverage for this). Clinic advised that they would submit medical results directly to embassy within approx. 7 days of exam.
Dec 11, 2009: FEDEX package containing completed Form 80 and Washington State Patrol background check received by Aussie Embassy at 8.39am this morning. We are still awaiting results from the FBI background check as the last item to be submitted.
Dec 18, 2009: received voicemail from clinic advising that they had mailed medical results off to Aussie embassy
Jan 6, 2010: Received email from case officer advising that our application had been processed and they were just awaiting the FBI background check to close it out. We're anxiously checking our mailbox every day for mail from the FBI so we can forward this last item to complete the process. (Our application for background check was originally received by the FBI on Nov 18)
Feb 8, 2010: FBI Clearance finally received in the mail (11 weeks & 5 days after originally being received by the FBI for processing). They ignored the expedite request and the FEDEX account details provided to them so they could overnight it back to us.
ADVICE TO OTHERS: Apply for your FBI Clearance at least 2 months prior to sending off your immigration packet to the Australian embassy for processing.
Feb 9, 2010: Emailed scanned copy of FBI Clearance to CO and sent the original by FEDEX overnight for her receipt on Wed Feb 10, 2010
Feb 17, 2010: Visa Granted !!! (issued in electronic format so no need to send passport in - all done) :partydots:
April 5, 2010: FLY TO OZ.....

Aussie Wife: Julie
U.S. Hubby: Brant

that's frustrating...it's gotta be coming soon. There is a number you can call to inquire about your processing. It's on the FBI website. Good luck!

Thanks mate, we did try to call that FBI number but it's just all automated messages now; seemingly no way to get through to a real person. They would have had it for 10 weeks on Jan 27 and if we haven't seen anything by then I expect we'll start to freak out a bit. Currently planning to make the move at the end of March but holding off buying tickets until we actually get the green light from the embassy.

Hi -
Any word on your visa yet? our timelines are only a week off...I just got my FBI tonight and overnighted; I lodged my visa the end of November as well. Just curious of how long it may take now.
