I finally received my background check in the mail. took ~ 11 weeks. Big difference to the 2.5 weeks when submitted at the same time last year! So plan in advance!

Received mine in the mail on Friday, so exactly 12 weeks from when I sent it...(which includes the Christmas/New Years period)

Sent my FBI check off on Tuesday, April 13 - thought I'd add it here to keep up with when I did it. Does it really take 13 weeks? Even if you put the date you need it and reason like it said on the info? I know the actual information page that I sent with it said you could do that...but in the instructions it said that no processing times would be expedited for any reason. So..hurry up and wait I guess...

is there like a mass exodus from this country or what? lol

Wow - I must have been really lucky when I did mine... I got my FBI clearance back about 3 weeks after I sent it in last year.

Haha you would think so from the amount of people applying on the forum ;)

They've had a backlog for the last few months so unless they've powered through I would only imagine it's still going to take the 12-13 weeks they've been quoting. Mine was sent over the Christmas/New Years period and I received it almost 13 weeks to the day I sent it from Australia. Probably a bit less time if you're sending it stateside.

I'm just curious...are there different types of FBI background checks? I.e. is there one that might take a week or two, and another that takes months? I'm just asking because my wife has had two done recently (one to get a nurse license in Alaska last May, then another around this past Christmas to get a nurse license in Florida), both required FBI checks (complete with annoying fingerprint card that we couldn't get locally, and had to find a place to do fingerprints), and both only took a matter of weeks.

I mean...13 weeks...ouch! I'd be trying to get that taken care of as soon as we apply for the visa, instead of waiting until it's requested (which was my original plan).

The minute I knew that we were immigrating to Australia, I did the FBI and state checks as they were the only things that I couldn't control so I wanted to make sure I had them in plenty of time... :) Yep thats me... a control freak!

Not that I know of. The one I did was the full fingerprint card and all, and that only took a few weeks to get back. It's the same one people are waiting 13 weeks for currently. It looks like they've either let a lot of people go, slowing things down, or they've got a massive influx of applications.

I sent in my prints March 10 and I just got them back today with the letter quoting April 15 as the processed date! So perhaps they are getting them out sooner now?

Yeah, I got mine back after about 8-9 weeks, not the 13 weeks they had quoted me so looks like things are speeding up just a little bit. Now I wonder how much longer my visa will take to process once my C.O. gets the finger prints and other few last bits of additional paper work he requested?

Wed. will be 12 weeks since I've sent it in. I called about 3 weeks ago. They said they have it and to just sit still...It'll take about 2 more weeks after that. I'm SICK of sitting still.

wow BMR, that was FAST! Congrats! :congrats:

My FBI papers came yesterday and hubby took them to the immigration agent. So from the beg of Feb to end of April for them to process them! This should be the last bit of paperwork they need. I hope the medicals went ok. I want to go home.

Hi,

The FBI received my request on April 5, 2010, charged my card on May 21, 2010, mailed it back to me on May 25, 2010 and I received it in the mail today June 7!! I'm really glad that they did'nt take the 13 weeks quoted as I have to submit my partner visa app on June 18! I also really hoping that it won't take 6 months to get approved...finger, toes and legs crossed!!
