I'm looking for a decent NY style (or any american style) pizza place...I live in Adelaide and am looking for something that resembles a meatlovers pizza. I can't tell you how many times I've been in pizza shops here that "smelled good" bought a pizza and it is tasteless crap, not to mention the mysterious speckled ham/bacon or the lack of italian sausage and pepperoni. I even tried a pasta dish and asked for olive oil over the noodles and was told "we don't use olive oil [in this particular so called pizza shop]...anyways...I also found American style pizza on some menu's which was thick sliced SPICY salami....ummmm never had this back home?!? Also tried the frozen pizza's ...again no variety and horrible tasting.... Any ideas....suffering from withdrawls here.....(I love Pizza Hut but looking for this thin, greasy succulent NY Style I was brought up on :( .... yes that was drool) So far the only place that tastes acceptable is Woodville Pizza... |

There is a NY pizza place that is pretty good here in Melbourne (NY Pizza Deli on Fitzroy St. in St Kilda). I don't know if it is exactly like the Pizza in NY but it is the closest thing to American pizza I have eaten here. They use the same American made hearth oven as a good pizza place would in the US. It does have a nice thin crust too. Really good pizza has to be baked directly on the stone floor of the oven. Pizza baked on metal pans or in a convayer belt oven will not be as good. As you noticed pepperoni here is quite spicy and is sometimes referred to as "hot salami". |

I've found lots of excellent pizza here, but mostly small local shops. There is one that's a chain in Sydney, not sure if they have any in Adelaide- it's called Crust. |

I haven't found any pizza that I like so we just make our own. Sooo much better tasting and I can pile on the veggies. For some reason I cannot get enough red capsicum at the moment. It is awesome on pizza (and everything else), especially roasted. |

A couple weeks ago, I read that Crust is going to open a Darwin franchise sometime this year. Can't wait to try it! |

Once you read her site, you will rely on it heavily. Trust me. ![]() And I've made the pasta alla vodka at least once a week since I got here. Edited by CynicalCountess, Jan 25 2010, 01:47:19 AM.

Bindie, If you can get them there, try some sliced green olives on a pizza... Only place I've found them here is Dominos which isn't exactly my favorite. I keep harassing Round Table over it, to the point that now when I bring it up, I often hear "yeah, we've been getting requests for that". But they are a big chain and I don't think it's up to individual stores. Anyway, green sliced olives really add zing to a pizza, YMMV though... CynicalCountess, Thank you for the links! Unfortunately I've already shopped for the week, but there's some things there I'm going to try for sure. My poor kids never complain, but I know they're bored with my limited cooking repertoire. Great site for recipes. I love the step by step... I might even get Danny to follow that, it's so detailed! And the recipes look amazing. |

PW is AWESOME. And keep an eye out, she often does giveaways - like a Kitchenaid mixer (WANT), or a panini press, or something. |
