Anyone know where I can find San Miguel beer? Either CBD or Lower North Shore? We're missing our fix

I've seen Sol in either Vintage Cellars or the bottle shop by the train station, both on King St. I've seen Corona for sale in restaurants, but only a couple places have six-packs (who the bloody hell pays SIX BUCKS for a bottle of Corona, anyway? Christ! but I diverge). I do like James Squire's amber ale (an okay substitute for Fat Tire), Coopers Pale Ale (thankfully not overly hoppy like American pale ales), and Beez Neez summer ale. They do sell Becks and Stella here, which makes me a happy camper. Edited by CynicalCountess, Jan 24 2010, 09:35:12 PM.

My favorite beer here so far is Mountain Goat's Hightail ale which is brewed right here in Melbourne. I am enjoying one as I am typing this post. |

Thanks for the tip, I am going to have to try that one. I tried the James Squire IPA (as I love IPA) but was not impressed. Tasted nothing like an IPA. I have been trying a few beers here and there trying to find something I like. Crown Lager is pretty good for a basic beer.

Hi Melissa. Go to the Red Oak Boutique Brewery on Clarence St in the city. They sometimes have an IPA that's fairly close to what you would be used to. I like hoppy ales, so I usually have the organic pale ale there, and 3 sheets at the Lord Nelson. Both places are great for beer!!!:) |

I love the Hofbräu dunkel (or something dunkel) at the Hofbräuhaus at The Rocks. |

The Little Creatures IPA is very hoppy and flowery, if I'm remembering right. My favorite is their pilsener. I miss New Belgium beer - the local brews are good too, but boy I wouldn't mind some 1554. |

I believe that you should check Dan Murphys and if you can e-mail them that would be even better. They seem to be the god of liquor owned by Woolworths and that is where they send all of their overstocked and undersold items here in OZ and they discount it to get write offs from the government. This is how my wife explained it to me. hope that helps! |

As insane as it sounds, I'm looking forward to the beer when I visit the US for the next few weeks. The quality and variety at the high end is much better there than here - and they're stronger as well. Good ones here: Red Oak (but the Melb selection is limited), Red Hill, Murray's. I found a nice barleywine style at Dan Murphy's. Cooper's Red and Stout aren't bad. |
