The Swedish Market at IKEA has Roasted Onions (Rostad Loek) which are quite a good substitute for Durkee's French-fried Onions, and have a better taste than the Asian fried shallots. Great for green bean casserole or topping anything, I used them on au gratin potatoes last week and they were wonderful.
100g (~1 cup) for $1.95.

Ooh, you mean the deep-fried things? Awesome! (by the way, try making a broccoli casserole. I like it more than green beans)

I was going to tell you how easy it is to roast onions (cut in half, cut off tips, peel, drizzle olive oil, and put in a hot hot oven) but :)

yup, those kind of onions in the can.
There have been many threads on here from people lonesome for the green bean casserole, and the only thing anyone's come up with to substitute for the Durkee's onions are Asian fried shallots, but these IKEA ones definitely have a better taste, and they're lightly battered.

And yup, I've made casseroles out of just about everything, I'm old and been cooking for lots of years. 8)
