Okay, I'm already sick of doing all the online searching myself for a property for us to lease in Brisbane. Further frustration is caused by the fact that we're moving our two cats to Australia with us - 99% of properties seem to be "no pets". I want to hire a consultant / agent to do the property searching and negotiating with agents for us. Has anyone used such a service with a satsifying result and can provide us with a referral? Thanks, Julie |

My experience with real estate (limited as it is) has been that there really isn't a "buyers/renters advocate" here. In the States we would work with an agent and that agent would negotiate on our behalf for the best price for us the buyer. In exchange, the agent got half the commission of the sale/rental. Here in Australia they don't share commissions, so there is no incentive for agents to represent the buyer. Thus they only represent the owner and negotiate the best price for the owner, which very often leaves the buyer/renter getting the short end of the stick. Just my experiences, I'd like to hear others thoughts/experiences. Cheers, Marilyn |

Thanks Marilyn, I'm really looking for a relocation expert to help us acquire a lease though - rather than purchase. After the unpleasant experience we've had with buying real estate and then losing our pants here in the U.S. over the last 4 years we may never buy again. Just looking to get settled in a rental for the long-term and then we'll see what happens next. |

We used Nuss Relocations and were really happy with them. I think they have offices in Sydney and Melbourne- not sure about Brisbane. It was really nice to have someone handle all the details for us. It made our move very smooth. Good Luck! Jen |
