Hi everyone!

Just looking at what has to happen for my 2nd stage spouse visa (to gain permanent residency) and I realized that I never notified the DIAC when my husband and I moved into our new house. Not a huge deal because they currently have Dan's parent's address (they only live 5 minutes down the road), but I thought they should probably have our current address.

I know I have to fill out form 929 (change of address) and I have it sitting right here in front of me, but I just have a few questions about it:

1. Question #5 asks for the "details of identity card or identity number issued to the applicant by his/her government (if applicable) eg. National identity card" What the heck is an identity card? Would it be my passport number or can I just leave this one blank since it says "if applicable"?

2. Question #7 asks "At which office was the application lodged?" I filed for my spouse visa outside of Australia so I submitted my application to the Washington D.C. office (which is what I wrote on this form), but then it says to "return the completed form to the office where you lodged your application or if your visa has been granted, to the nearest office of the deparment".

This is confusing to me because my visa has been granted for temporary residency, but I'm still waiting for my permanent residency to be granted, so does this mean that yes, my visa has been granted and I mail this form to the nearest office of the department (which in my case would be probably the Brisbane or Gold Coast office), or do I mail this form to Washington D.C.?

I'm assuming that I consider my visa to be granted and so I would mail this form to Brissy or Gold Coast, but I'm just not positive.

Why is this so confusing? :headscratch: Maybe it's just me...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Nikki

 Hi Nikki!
I just asked my husband, because I'm also looking at Form 929 (I just renewed my US passport, and need to give DIAC the details, while I'm waiting for Citizenship).
He says some countries, like Singapore, issue a National Identity Card, and that's what they want. I asked him if our SS# would be applicable, and he thinks it would be fine to put, if you're comfortable with that, or else leave it blank. I remember putting it somewhere once before, and it seemed to be okay.

Question #6, you have lodged your application for Residence (your Spouse Visa), so #7 would be the office where you lodged that application when you got married, i.e. Brisbane. (Washington DC never wants to hear from us again! LOL)

Good luck!
Lisa

p.s. I'm so glad you got a chance to meet up with Vicki, I've been emailing with her and she's very nice! :goodonya:

edit to spell Vicki right, I keep doing that!

I give them my Social Security number there.

That'd be D.C. Your visa has been granted, so you'd return your form to the nearest immigration office.

Thanks Lisa and Blarg! That all makes perfect sense now.

Lisa - I'm glad I've been able to meet up with Vicki too! She is really nice and so is her soon-to-be husband, Mark :) I told her I was so excited that FINALLY there's someone from YDU who lives in Mackay that I can meet up with! :)

Just for the record (in case anyone else has these questions in the future), I called the DIAC to confirm the answers for me and to ask them a few other things and this is what they said:

Question #5 (Details of identity card or identity number issued to the applicant by his/her government if applicable) - you don't have to fill this answer in if you have already filled out question #4 (where you provide one of the following types identification: client number, file number, application receipt number, passport number, visa grant number, visa label number, etc.)

I do think if you wanted to, you could put your social security number here as stated in the posts above, but it's not required as long as you filled out question #4.

The answer to my second question was that I mail form 929 to the closest office (for me this would probably be Brisbane) because I have already been granted my visa. If you haven't been granted your visa yet, this would be the office where you applied for the visa.

Hope this helps anyone else with these questions!

Nikki

Hey Nikki this was a great thread. I came to check the forum for this exact purpose! I have relatives living at the address the government has on file for me, and all of our mail gets forwarded to our new address. But I was a little uneasy that perhaps they may not forward it correctly... and it's just a good idea to give them my updated address anyway, right? LOL Thanks for asking the question and saving me a bit of time! :)
