I bought a water filter back in the states that costs me around $355 it is installed under the sink. I was wondering if anyone knew of fittings that can adapt Metric to Imperial fittings so I can install the filter here in my house in OZ. I know American fittings are pretty much one of two sizes normally used on flex stainless steel pipe. Is it the same here. I know there is a Bunnings however when I was down there the lady looked at me like I had a UFO behind me and and two antennae's growing off of my head I would suppose that Home Depot would be the same way if I had asked them the reverse. Thanks, JC |

Is it bad that the first thing that went through my head when I read this was "duct tape"? Can't offer anything of any actual use in terms of an adaptor though... |

I would take the filter to the hardware store or home center and just try screwing things together. This will be easier than trying to match things by by numbers alone and guessing it will fit. You might just find something that fits. I think that some fittings might actually be the same or very close due to the fact that this country was not always metric and a lot of existing plumbing from these times is still in place (such as the original 1961 plumbing under my bathroom sink). If this fails perhaps a bit of rubber hose and some clamps could connect from the American fitting to the metric one. Good luck! |

Sounds like you don't know what fitting you have on the filter? That complicates things as you'll need to physically check any possible adapter to see if it fits. IF you know what the US fitting is that you need, I could get a couple and ship from Coota when I'm there in April. You'd need to find a machine shop that can machine the two fittings such that they can be silver soldered together leaving the desired threads on each end. Or, again if you know what US fitting you need and can ship the metric ones to me, I can do this, and ship the finished adapters back. If you don't know what the US thread is, but are otherwise interested, ship me one of the flex hoses and metric fittings, and I'll source the US fittings locally. I won't be there until April 18th. If you wanted me to do this, I'd need your stuff here no later than the first week in April. And btw, I'm offering a freebie here, for the chance to check this out as a possible item I could manufacture, or maybe locate a source and supply them. I own a machine shop that I plan to bring with me. I doubt there's a huge demand for metric/inch adapter fittings, but it's something I'm looking into as a possible minor product line. And that's something I could do from here btw, as I identify needed adapter configurations. One source of metric stuff I've used here in the States is Maryland Metrics, http://mdmetric.com/prgde3b.htm#plumbing . They list adapters for British to NPT (US) pipe fittings, but nothing specific to sink fittings. And btw, I went into the Coota hardware store to inquire if they carried NPT pipe fittings and got the same look... ![]() |
