I'd mentioned to Danni I scored a Save-a-Blade for $5 at a discount place, and if it worked, would get several more for family there. She says they're now being advertised there on TV for $80! Went back to the discount store, and they are sold out. So I started looking online, and what I read about this thing had me doubting my own experience. I'd only tried to refresh a disposable blade one time, and it sure seemed to me to shave better. But after all the negative comments I'd read, I decided to investigate a bit further myself. I have a fairly powerful microscope, and just got done looking at the same disposable razor I'd first used it on. I gave it one good 10 second run, wet as instructed.
Under the scope, I can see an incredibly fine band right along the cutting edge that is blued. This is from heat, and is most likely from the heat treat process used to harden the edge. I can see this blue band right up to where the ends of the blades disappear into the plastic frame. Nowhere along either blade, was any of this bluing even touched by the sandpaper in the Save-a-Blade. Yeah, that's all it is, sandpaper...

I understand razors are quite expensive down under. My suggestion there would be to investigate ebay or other outlets that sell in bulk and might ship to Oz, or use one of the shipping forwarders.

I'm just shocked at the price they are selling for down there, and thought I'd try and save someone some money.
