Kev - my hubby says that you are as close to dinky di as a non-Aussie can get :)

I really have enjoyed this conversation and thread and I couldn't really place why I couldn't relate to it very much and then it dawned on me... I'm a person with mixed race heritage. I'm half Native American and half German. I never belonged anywhere - I wasn't Indian enough for the Indians and I wasn't white enough for the whites. So I've always had to develop my own sense of who I am regardless of what "others" might think. I haven't felt this sense of 'not belonging' because I have never really belonged anywhere... I'm not sure if that makes sense but I think its helped my feelings of adjusting here and feeling settled in...

wow!! thank you all for your posts, they were are all great! i am glad to see other people have the same feelings as me.

update on me, I am currently back in PA. A few weeks after I posted a lot of family issues happened and I had to come home to support and be with my family. It was a very last minute trip and my family was so happy to see me and the kids. I was very sad to have to leave my hubby behind but he couldnt take off work on that short of notice or for very long, we are here probably til may. Now that I have been here for 3 weeks I am ready to return to australia but i know that its going to be a long time before i get back here again since its not a very cheap vacation! lol! at this point though the kids are getting a bit homesick for australia which cracks me up because when we are in australia they are homesick for the us! Its been a good time so far but the weather has sucked and i'm ready for the warm stuff!

I hear ya... and you're right, that's just the way it is. But it's also kinda sad, y'know? Sad that many people's definition of "Australian" cannot include people who are obviously different but still call this land home. Perhaps this will change over the years, as the face of Australia changes. I hope so.
It's the same way with the states, though. Many people still argue about who is considered "American". That's just the way it's going to be, although it will surely lessen as time goes on. You can't get too upset with the Aussies about it. It's normal; I accepted it right when I stepped off the plane onto Australian soil. :D

I'm sorry that you had to go back under such circumstances. I hope things are not too stressful for you during this time!

Hi Stacy!

I kinda figured you'd gone back to the States. Sorry to hear about your family issues. I hope all is well and your return trip goes smoothly. J and E really miss seeing your kids at the fence. :hugs:
The weather is getting drier now. Hopefully the Dry is around the corner!

Yes, I know... but just because something is "normal", in any country, doesn't mean it should be.
I'm just saying, it's sad. :(

thanks tori:) we will have to have a playdate when we get back! things are calming down down a little and it hasnt been too stressful. the weather is starting to warm up thank god!! i was freezing the first few weeks!! there was still snow on the ground the first few days we were here. i am very excited that ben is going to be coming over in may to fly back with us! which is good because we have a ton of stuff stored at my parents to bring back with us! my grandmother thinks she will talk us into moving back to the states but i really dont see that happening. i am not fond of darwin but like living in australia better than the US.
