vPost and similar services; purchase items from websites that don't accept international orders - sweet!

I just discovered this site - needed to have some personalized M&Ms made for our wedding and they don't ship to Australia (well, cheaply anyway)

https://www.vpostasia.com/australia/

If the website will take your overseas credit card but won't ship to your international address, you can have things shipped to your vPost address in the US and then forwarded on (for an additional shipping charge) to your Australia address.

I'll be sure to post if I have any problems with the service. I just placed an order today.

SO GLAD you posted this. I think someone else mentioned it awhile ago, but I forgot about it. My brother just had a baby and a few weeks ago I wanted to send them some stuff for her baby shower. However! Because Baby R Us is LAME, I was unable to. This would have been an awesome idea.

Thanks!

No worries! Just allow a bit of time for stuff to arrive. Your packages go to your vPost address in the States, then you get notified and have to pay the shipping to forward it and then it gets shipped overseas. So it could take a week or two longer than if you ordered direct. And congrats on your new niece or nephew!

I just found two more services that work in a similar way to vPost:

http://www.borderlinx.com/m/

http://www.comgateway.com/

Just thought I'd share

What great finds! I know there are services like this for Japan, so it shouldn't surprise me that the same exists for Australia. I'm just wondering what the cost of shipping will come out to when all is said and done.

Also, I would be a bit concerned about the shipment of those M&M's. The reason it costs so much is because they store it in a special box to keep them from melting, and I believe they instruct the carrier not to leave the box outside where it can be abused by the elements. Not sure what vPost has in the way of facilities, but let's hope they don't leave that box out in the sun or in a hot storehouse!

Hope not...but they went to Portland, OR, where it isn't too hot right now. Guess I'll find out in a week or so...

I use MyUS.com.
Me too.Are these services the same sort of thing as myus.com where you pay a monthly fee for an address?

I use mine very occasionally, so I paid the one time setup fee and just let it sit there unused until I need it, no monthly fee involved.

vPost definitely has no setup fee - not sure about the other two I mentioned...you just pay the shipping costs, which can be high

I have a Luxembourgish friend. No one ships there, including (puzzlingly) amazon.de. That's right, Amazon Germany does not ship to its neighbor, despite the fact that you could stand on the German/Lux border and walk the package to the appropriate address.

I pay a monthly fee so I can get mail sent there rather than just packages.I'm always on the lookout for a better deal though! ;)

is it cheaper to use these services than to have packages shipped directly? or do you use it more for companies who do not ship internationally?

they are intended for companies that don't ship internationally

Just an update everyone, as I've been trying a couple of these out...VPost works well. There's the added step that you have to forward them your invoices, but that's not difficult. Have just had two trying, difficult experiences with Borderlinx. So can't recommend that one at all!!

for those who use these services, just curious what the size and cost of your package was? i am trying to figure out if it is better to have the things i want sent to my family (shipping is free from the store) and then have them mail it to me or go through one of these services.
