Good old Immigration. haha I applied for my PR (Defacto visa) in January (2010) and still have not yet heard from anyone except for the letter confirming they received my application back in January. Luckily my place of work was able to keep me as a contractor until it comes in (I'm just out of uni so they couldn't sponsor me) but I would really like to have this stressful situation over with, and also go home without worrying it might finally get looked at as soon as Im back in the states, and then would have to fly back here. Does anyone know what's going on down at DIAC? I call them and Never receive the same answers! I'm also worried that the 6 mos timelines is not going to occur for me -- considering I have not even been issued a case officer and I'm nearing 5 mos. Edited by uat6, May 27 2010, 10:14:16 PM.

So what answer do you get when you call? You should have a case officer by now. |

Over the past months I've called a few times, and they always answer differently. Usually they say no case officer, one person one time told me i had 2, another then told me i didn't have one, and then another told me i had one and gave me a name, which turned out not to be the CO. Up to this point, i have most recently been told i have no case officer but not to be worried, because i haven't reached my 6 mos yet?? I don't really get it, but no one (including lawyer) seems to be able to help, or explain things any better. :S |

Personally I'd be hounding the lawyer. They're supposed to add value and to not even know what's happening with your application just wouldn't be acceptable to me. |

I applied onshore at the end of January 2010. We went down there without an appointment and got a CO after 10 min. I turned everything in and now we are just waiting. I called our CO about a month ago to see how it was going, and she informed us they had a back log of cases waiting to be done. The Waiting game is hard!! |

Sandy, It's been a few months since this post but I was wondering what happened with your application. I submitted mine in June last year and I seem to be getting the same run around as you. I was even told that it could take a year. Thanks. |

The current waiting time between application submission to the Sydney office and getting a case officer is currently running at well over 6 months. It took me 9 months before I heard anything from a case officer, and then they asked for more info and it took almost 2 months to hear anything back from that. So almost a year from when I applied, I still don't know if my visa will be approved or not! Not sure that hounding them will really help, as they have a massive backlog. They may consider special circumstances though. Edited by Zander, Feb 11 2011, 11:02:52 AM.
