I did my fingerprints for my state police check today (my immigration agent told me I didn't need them and not to get them... well... guess what????) Anyways... they wouldn't mail them directly to the Embassy. When they arrive at my house- can I open them before I mail them to my CO? Vicki |

I don't see why not... I'm pretty sure I opened mine. You know, just to be certain there wasn't some sort of mix up in the records. XD

I applied under the old visa rules, but my instructions specifically said that all police reports (state and federal) must be in a sealed envelope from the agency and will not be accepted if opened. I suggest you read the instructions for your visa VERY carefully and/or ask your agent before opening. You do NOT want to open them, send them, and have them rejected because they were not in the sealed agency envelope. I wanted to know what was in my state and federal reports, so I ordered 2 of each. I opened and kept one and sent the other to DIAC. Cheers, Marilyn |

The agent said to leave them sealed, so I guess I will (although his advice has left a little to be desired on all accounts). Mine BETTER be clear- lol. My hubby had opened the FBI one- and nothing was said but I'll probably leave it alone. If I opened it and that held me up having to get another one I'd be really upset. Thanks, Vicki |

I opened both of mine when they came. First, I never heard of not being able to open the letter. I feel like when things need to arrive to an agency (DIAC) sealed, they make is ridiculously clear not to open it. I had to get a licence verification from my (pharmacist) registering agency in America to submit to the Australian Board of Pharmacy. And it was listed all over the application "DO NOT open the letter..." "....MUST arrived to agency SEALED". Bold, italics, hard to miss... Second, I was also paranoid that my prints for the FBI check would be rejected. Since I'm a self-declared professional at reading prints, I immediately assumed they would be rejected because some of the ridges on a few fingers were smeared or didn't transfer at all. I would hate to send this off to DIAC not knowing that the letter was actually supposed to be addressed by me. I saw that as holding up my PMV application even further! Luckily my prints turned out. And DIAC accepted my FBI background check despite it being opened. Third, I was curious Good luck! I hope you hear good things soon |
