redi-whip (in an aerosol can, found in the fridge section of the supermarket), or make your own, using thickened cream and icing sugar. beat the living daylights out of it until its the consistency you desire. |

Be careful not to overbeat, if you have egg whites in there!

I use Dream Whip for anything that calls for Cool Whip. So far it's worked ok... no disastrous results, but you definately notice that it's not the real thing. You can get Dream Whip at USA foods. Cheers, Marilyn |

In Balaclava (Melbourne) I saw frozen kosher US made non dairy whipped topping liquid (you whip it yourself) for sale at the local supermarket. I forget the brand name and whether I saw it in Coles or Wollies. This item might not be available everywhere but you might want to look for it in Jewish kosher markets and supermarkets in Jewish areas of Sydney or Melbourne. I'm not so sure if it can be found in Darwin or other cities however. When whipped this topping should be similiar to Cool Whip. Kosher markets often have other common foods imported from the USA that just so happen to be kosher. |

i found a recipe to make cool whip. Ingredients * 1 teaspoon gelatin * 2 teaspoons cold water * 3 tablespoons boiling water * 1/2 cup ice water * 1/2 cup nonfat dry milk powder * 4 tablespoons sugar (or more if desired) * 3 tablespoons oil * 2 teaspoons vanilla Directions 1. Chill a small bowl. 2. Soften gelatin with 2 tsp cold water, then add the boiling water, stirring until gelatin is completely dissolved; cool until tepid (almost room temperature). 3. Place ice water and dry milk powder in the chilled bowl. 4. Beat at high speed, until mixture forms stiff peaks; add sugar and vanilla, still beating, then oil and gelatin. 5. Place in freezer for about 15 minutes, then transfer to refrigerator until ready to use. 6. Stir just before using, to retain creamy texture. **NOTE** do not double recipe or the mixture will not thicken. also, 1 tsp PURE vanilla may be added if desired. |

I'm interested in trying this. I've just been going the route of using an electric mixer on thickened cream till it whips up, then adding powdered sugar and vanilla to taste which works well. For a kick, I've thrown a bit of cocoa powder in for a chocolate whipped cream. Needless to say, my step-daughter thinks I'm a pretty awesome guy. Then I blew her mind with green pancakes. |

Haha, yeah... The wife isn't impressed at all. The youngest kid demands blue pancakes every weekend. Edited by PsychoNavigator, Aug 30 2010, 11:52:14 PM.

Ha ha ha! awesome. you should try coloured mashed potatoes too, then you can roll it around like playdough and make things, but not in front of the kids or all your "don't play with your food" pleas will just become a joke. |

I actually just had a girl I used to babysit about 15 years ago friend me on FB and the first thing she wrote was about the blue popcorn and green mac and cheese I made them when I babysat. Lol. Oooo... I'll have to check Woolies and Coles (on Carlisle?) - good tip there! I usually just make my own but it's not quite the same for some things. |
