I'm shocked no one has posted this website yet. It's been a lifesaver for me! It's Mexican stuff made by real Mexicans, you can't get more authentic than that! http://www.fireworksfoods.com.au For those of you in NSW, their brick-and-mortar shop is at North Rocks where you can get fresh mexican cheeses and hot tortilla chips. Since I've seen nary a black or pinto bean, ancho chile or tomatillo since moving here, I searched high and low before landing on this shop's website. Hopefully it is as good to you as it's been to me. ![]() I should mention that this is the place that carries dried black beans and dried pinto beans since so many people seem to be on the hunt. They also have canned whole black and pinto beans though, which might be worth a try. Edited by emseedubya, Jul 9 2010, 04:23:41 AM.

In Adelaide there is a place called Garganis Brothers on Bacon St, in Hindmarsh. That sells TONS of mexican and other ethnic items... we've finally found a place to get canned black beans and habanaro sauce. Just found it and can't wait to explore more!! |

Someone from an aussie forum I frequent found a site specializing in mexican foodstuffs and shared it with me. The wife said I am free to go nuts. She's never had mexican until I showed her what's what. Homemade tortillas will be on constant order once I get my hands on that press! http://montereyfoods.com.au/ Edited by PsychoNavigator, Aug 30 2010, 10:43:34 PM.

I just brought a press back with me from Texas.... I hope you like yours. I found it disappointing. I actually like the tortillas better after I use a rolling pin- I can get them thinner. (I could have brought back 3 pair of shoes for what that sucker weighed in my suitcase! lol) |

Ah, thanks for the warning. I like mine nice and thin as well, sad thing is that I can't roll out anything close to a semi-decent circle without cheating and throwing a large plate down and cutting it, which is really bad for my anal retentive nature. So invariably I guess it will be me using the press to get em pressed out and from there I'll thin em down with a pin. Ever use them for breakfast burritos? Mmm mmm! |

lol! this is exactly what I use mine for- to make them round, then I use the rolling pin to make them thin! I forgot about the plate trick- my grandma taught me that for pie crusts. Now that I'm making my own crusts instead of the good ol' pillsbury one's I'll have to try this next time... they taste good but boy are they fugly. |

I was just going to add that fireworksfoods.com.au is a must! Then I saw this posting and was so disappointed I didn't see it before because I spent probably an hour finding a place online. Anyhow, not sure what Gaganis brothers has...I will let everyone know when I go to Adelaide. I ordered food from fireworks food online and got the shipment within a few days. The plus is they have NM red chili! If anyone has had NM Red chili it is delicious...homemade...I don't usually like the ones in the restraunt. The cost was 4ish and was a small bag (100g) of red chili. About the size of a pint freezer bag. I made the chili yesterday and was in heaven! I felt like I was back home in NM. If they sell this at Gaganis I am buying a stock to last a while! I also got some green poblano chili, which, although canned was not bad. |
