Florida state police checks; How do I get a state police check?

Hi everyone!

I'm wondering how to go about getting my state police checks done for the on-shore de facto visa? I was living in Florida, Lake County, but don't even know where to start! I've tried checking online for the answer but am so far coming up empty. I also called the sheriff's office but found them really, really unhelpful...

Am I able to still get the checks without being in the US? And if so, does anyone know how??

Thanks very much!

- Kat

Hi Kat,

I just moved from Tampa (Hillsborough Cty). For my off-shore PMV, I was required to submit an FBI check and also a State Police Check. I went to Tampa Police Dept and had them print out a background check ($5). This was sufficient enough in my case. I believe they (TPD) said that you can submit your request by mail, but may need to have a certified copy of your state identification. You might want to try and contact the (city) police dept where you lived in Lake County and speak to someone in the records dept. Hope this helps :)

Hi Kat,
You should be able to get the FL background check from outside of Florida, no problem. There is not an official form - you just need to send a letter and a copy of your fingerprints with the processing fee (it was $24 at the time I got mine - last January). Assuming that you're clear, all they do is send back your letter with the official stamps that say that no criminal record is found. I seem to recall it being very simple!

I'm pasting the exact letter that I sent. Some of the wording is important, so you might just want to copy and insert your information. Hope this works for you and good luck!!

No Finger prints for the state of Florida - Dont get a copy off the internet. Send in the page from the web site Here is the link - https://www2.fdle.state.fl.us/cchinet/_docs/CrimHistInfoRequest.pdf

Good luck and keep in mind it only takes 5 - 7 days for this to get done.

Speedy return!

Glad to hear it. I definitely found the process of obtaining state checks the hardest because the online information was hard to find, and it was tricky to talk to anyone in any office who knew what I was talking about. Florida wasn't quite as terrible, since I just copied what my partner had done, but Georgia was a nightmare!

Good luck to you!!! :-)
