Hubby is in Melbourne this week and he's offered to go on a Costco run... very sweet I say! I haven't been to the Australian Costco - anyone care to share what is available?... is it mostly Australian goods or do they also carry American products?

I haven't been there in a while but they did have some American products last time I was there. Most of the products are Australian but are in "Costco size" packages.

I haven't been because I have never been to Melbourne, but I am looking forward to going there in January when we will be in Melbourne.

Not sure how I'll get in without a membership though! :headscratch:

In the US, if you are contemplating membership they will allow you a one time visitor pass to check it out and purchase... not sure if Australia will or not?

I thought someone said previously that they do that here, too, but not sure :headscratch:

Have you seen the "other" Costco thread?
http://yanksdownunder.net/topic/462773/
Lots of info in there about what's available. Of course, it makes me SO jealous!

Have fun and stock up!

I was talking to somebody last night who works in Costco's IT dept. and they were saying they turn over $900,000.00 on a Sunday. I'd believe it from the number of people there. He also said all is going well ot have the Sydney store open ext year.

Life is good in Melbourne. :)
Not just because of Costco ... but it helps.

Yes, you have the GAP too in Melbourne :P

At least the GAP is coming here in a couple of months. I will close my eyes to the price tags...

The Gap hasn't opened JUST yet... but it will be open in just a couple of weeks. I'm sure Chadstone will be even busier than usual.

Which is why I would never buy anything from Costco. Much of that list would go bad/dry out/go nasty before I could use it all.

4 litres of TOMATO SAUCE??? HOLY HELL.

2 pack of NUTELLA??? ROLL ME ON OUTTA HERE. Someone would have to rescue me days later with my hand stuck in the last Nutella jar, suffering a hazelnut comatose.

We rarely if ever eat out - 99% of the food that we eat is prepared at home so yep we go through stuff plus I have children and we have a lot of company over for dinner... I guess thats why there are choices in this world for all of us.

Did he happen to mention a time line for Canberra? That's the one we're most likely to use. I've let my ex keep her Costco card on my account, but she rarely uses it. I want to cancel that card and get one for Danni next time I'm there, even if we have to drive to Melbourne. Or, I guess I could get her on my account here next time she comes over...

I haven't heard any plans for Canberra... I'm not sure it's big enough?

I'd rather a Ikea, myself. =)

Amazingly, we have a huge new super Ikea in Perth, and it's packed on weekends, still backs up traffic exiting off the freeway
All the tradies in the area go there for breakfast during morning smoko, can't beat the prices!
I've figured out how to go in the exit to the Swedish Market if I don't want to follow the yellow line. 8)

But I doubt we'll get a Costco anytime soon :(

I can't wait for the Sydney Costco. I am seriously having dreams about it. I hate having to buy snacks for the boys lunches in these small, expensive packs. Bring on the bulk!!!!

Just went today... Goodies included a big ol' pack of American hotdogs (imported - I checked), multiple blocks of Monterey Jack and Sharp Cheddar cheese made in the USA (for cheap too - 1kg was only about $7), a big bucket of Vegemite for about $8 (yes - not American, but pretty good deal), and I was proud I avoided the potato chip aisle because that big bag of Ruffles was just shouting at me to come get it.

Edited to add: And for those of you who live down here - they're having a pretty good coupon sale and they've got Bounce and Tide for $2 or more off as well.
