Last year I was in Australia under a Special Programs Visa (which was basically a 4 month working holiday visa through a program.) I am currently back in Australia (under the Work and Holiday visa) and have recently landed myself a job. I already have a tax file number - but my question is; is my TFN still good? Or is it linked to the old visa? Do I need a new TFN linked to my new visa? Thanks in advance for the help! Cheers, Samantha |

Based on the info I found on the ATO (Tax Office) website below, I don't think you need a new one. "Your TFN is yours for life, even if you change jobs, move interstate or change your name. If you leave the country and come back to Australia, you still use the same TFN." Link to page: http://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/content.asp?doc=/content/00229875.htm&page=2 |

You will only get one TFN in your lifetime. Even if you apply for another one, the ATO will data match your name and date of birth as already in their records and they will inform you of your original TFN. Consider this item checked off your "to do" list. |
