Does anyone know of anywhere in Sydney besides the police station that does fingerprints? I have been to two different police station's and none of them have a clue as to how to do proper prints in ink. They do them for me, but they are being rejected by the FBI. If anyone knows of somewhere that does them good please let me know. Thanks! |

I did mine in Merrylands. They have a live scan machine, and they just laser print them out. If that's a bit far for you, try calling a few and asking if they have livescan machines. The only places I know of that do fingerprinting here are the police stations, but they tend to have an untrained constable doing them... |

I did mine at the local police station, which came out fine for me, other than the mess of black ink on my hands that didn't want to come off. They had to use the manual ink method because they said the live scan was for entering people into the criminal database. For blarg's sake hope that wasn't true... :D I'd be pissed if the police had stuffed up my prints. Come on, you should be pros at this! Edited by PsychoNavigator, Aug 31 2010, 10:29:15 AM.

Quick question. I assume the prints are done on some sort of fingerprint card, similar to the FBI card, is that correct? If so, what descriptive info does the card contain? |

OK, colour us confused. CynicalCountess and I were just down at our local police station to get her fingerprints for her FBI Check for the 820 application. We were told that the police send the prints off to the FBI along with the paperwork (request form, credit card form etc).. Does this sound correct? From what I've read on this forum and elsewhere, I was under the impression that the applicant gets fingerprinted, the prints get given to the applicant, who then sends it off to the FBI. Any help would be appreciated. |

My FBI fingerprint story reads like a bad novel... I had major problems with the police station in my home town back in the US even agreeing to do them. They fought me tooth and nail to not do them "We don't DO immigration prints" but I insisted that they be done. Well I had printed the FBI fingerprint form on recycled paper so I could show them what form looked like (because they said I was asking them to use the wrong form) anyway... they did my prints but they insisted on doing them on the paper that I brought it... I said fine I don't care do them on that paper. They did them and then threw the paper back at me and said "Here you go - its going to be sent back and denied anyway" I said "Whatever I'm not asking you to care - I'm just asking you to do your job." So I left in a huff (after 45 minutes of haggling with idiots) and took my form home to send it in... and promptly noticed that I had printed the paper on some of my "re-used" paper - paper that I reuse in my printer... well on the other side of my official FBI fingerprint form? A coloring sheet from my Sunday school class that week... a nice coloring sheet of Jesus and Lazarus... I thought oh this is good... It came back in no time flat with an FBI stamp of approval... It was even more priceless to see the face of the immigration official in Australia who took our forms... So yeah crazy.

You are correct BB2. Here is a link directly from the FBI. Hope this helps. It states: Who May Request a Copy of a Record (or Proof That a Record Does Not Exist) Only you can request a copy of your own Identification Record. How to Request a Copy of Your Record Step 1: Complete the Applicant Information Form (pdf). If the request is for a couple, family, etc., all persons must sign the form. Include your complete mailing address. Provide your telephone number and/or e-mail address, if available. Step 2: Obtain a set of your fingerprints. Provide the original fingerprint card. Previously processed cards or copies will not be accepted. Your name and date of birth must be provided on the card. Fingerprints should be placed on a standard fingerprint form (FD-258) commonly used for applicant or law enforcement purposes. Include rolled impressions of all 10 fingerprints and impressions of all 10 fingerprints taken simultaneously (these are sometime referred to as plain or flat impressions). If possible, have your fingerprints taken by a fingerprinting technician. This service may be available at a law enforcement agency. To ensure the most legible prints possible, refer to the Recording Legible Fingerprints brochure. Step 3: Submit payment. Option 1: Obtain a money order or cashiers check for $18 U.S. dollars made payable to the Treasury of the United States. Please be sure to sign where required. Option 2: Pay by credit card using the Credit Card Payment Form (pdf). Don’t forget to include the expiration date of the credit card that you are using. Important note: Cash, personal checks, or business checks WILL NOT be accepted. Payment must be for the exact amount. If the request is for a couple, family, etc., include $18 for each person. If you are making multiple requests per person, include $18 for each request. Step 4: Review the FBI Identification Record Request Checklist (pdf) to ensure that you have included all the information we require to process your request. Step 5: Mail the required items listed above—applicant information form, fingerprint card, and payment—to the following address: FBI CJIS Division – Record Request 1000 Custer Hollow Road Clarksburg, WV 26306 Edited by cherryRipe33, Aug 31 2010, 05:10:51 PM.

You can download the Standard Fingerprint Form (FD-258) from the FBI website. It also says: The FBI Criminal Justice Information Services Division will accept the downloaded paper fingerprint card only for the purposes of requesting an FBI Identification Record through Departmental Order 556-73. If you go to a law enforcement agency or private fingerprinting agency to be fingerprinted, they may prefer to use a fingerprint card on standard card stock. You may use the fingerprint card provided by the fingerprinting agency. I would suggest you print out the FD-258 Form and take it w/you to the fingerprinting agency if they dont have this particular one on hand - no pun intended ![]() ...just in case. for some reason I had it in my head that the prints had to be in ink. I called the FBI last night (at like midnight to catch them in the morning est) and they confirmed that I can send in a print off from the scan machine. That is hopeful. Although I just received more helpful news today on the prints I sent back in June that I had taken in the US (which I thought were lost in the mail) were received, but I forgot to provide my credit card number for payment on the form! I don't know how I managed that, but I was trying to get 20 zillion other things done that day as well! I know those sets should be fine. So I have sent 3 sets now. One has officially been rejected lets hope one of the other two turns out ok! I was contemplating sending one more in which was why I posted this question as I don't want to wait 3 more months to find out I have to do it all over again. This is all I need in order to get my visa done! |

Cheers for the info everyone. The info we got from the local cops certainly threw us for a loop. I think the New South Wales Police Force have their own cards. A lot of this process seems to be out of our hands. I think the best we can do for now is to print out the proper forms etc, get the things printed, rely on the NSW Cops to get them to the FBI and hope for the best. I got the FBI fingerprint card printed out on card stock, but apparently the FBI card on printer paper or whatever card a police station uses is acceptable. If anyone else has to start building an application in NZ, I can say that I had no problems with the police station in central Wellington and the person taking my prints was obviously experienced and knew what to look for

No, if you read on the FBI website it just says your fingerprint card has to have your full name and DOB on the card. |

Hello Xaku! I'm new here too and I just sent in my fingerprints to the FBI also. I guess we can both wait together.

Glad to know I'm not the only one this happened to! I had my prints done at the Townsville police station, sent them off in July and just the other day got a note back from the FBI saying they weren't good enough. In the meantime I've moved to Brisbane so if anyone knows a good fingerprinter in Brissy I'd appreciate it! I need to apply for residency by March of next year so I can't afford to have them rejected again. I used the form the police supplied last time, this time the FBI sent me their form on card stock so hopefully that will help. Crossing my fingers that everyone who's waiting has a good result (including me). |

Hello All, Does anyone know of a way or place in Sydney to have your fingerprints taken and given to you so that you can send it off yourself? I see all these horror stories about requests taking months and months and I can't afford such a wait as I need to apply for a new visa within the next 4 months. I set up an appointment with my local police station yesterday and was told that they would not release prints to me as I could alter them. They instructed that I bring in all the paperwork and they would send it off themselves. My fear is based on what I've read here about people having these prints rejected and not finding out until months later. I have 2 brothers in Chicago and I'm wondering if there's a way to obtain my prints for myself, mail it out to them (along with the FBI paperwork) and have it sent and returned to them there. Basically, is there any other way to obtain your prints for yourself (any fingerprinting agencies or services) other than the local police? Thanks, Gattaca |

Hello ashtree, I'm just wondering, it says on the FBI site that the local agency fingerprinting paper should be fine. Why would the FBI then send you their's on card stock? Do you think it would be worthwhile to buy card stock (what kind), print the FBI fingerprint page on that and take it into the police station here? I'm just guessing that they'd refuse that here in favor of their own standard form. I'm also wondering if it's wise of worthwhile to try to do your prints yourself or if there's any other options besides the local police. Thanks, -Gattaca |

Mine were done on the FBI card that I just printed out at home. The first time I sent them in it was on NSW fingerprinting cards and the constable doing them forgot to do all four fingers simultaneously, so they got rejected. I sent in the next set on the FBI card that I had just printed out at home and they were fine with it. |
