Just received a care package from the US - included many many packets of Mac & Cheese - just the cheese mix not the pasta (my 10 year old will be so happy) and Hidden Ranch dressing mix - life is GOOD! |

I have been packing and sorting this week, wondering what kinds of things like powdered cheese or ranch dressing mix I will miss, I won't know until I am there, and then it's too late. |

Beckagator: I've adjusted to many Aussie brands here, but I still find myself requesting the following from the US at times (if it helps trigger any ideas for you): - Roll on deodorant (I find it's mostly spray here) - Neosporin - Bounce dryer sheets - Magic Erasers |

*giggle* I noticed that, and thought you were talking about a car import.

no need to miss Magic Erasers!! Look for Chux Magic Eraser in Coles or Woolies. Just as good as Mr Clean Magic Erasers I miss Dove hairspray. All I can find here is aerosols (which are HORRIBLE for the environment) and heavy duty LACQUER pump sprays I have very fine hair and I just can't use the heavy sprays that are so popular here |

I got some some of the Chux erasers... They are ok and they work in a pinch; but they are nothing like the Magic Erasers. Depends on what you are cleaning though too - the Chux worked really well in tub and shower; but not so well at getting scuffs off the walls. Just my humble opinions

It's a LOT more work than packaged Mac & Cheese, but this looks to be a great scratch recipe: http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2009/04/macaroni-cheese/ I've been making a version touted as Ronald Regan's favorite, and my kids love it. It's not as much work as the one above, but I'll also bet money it's not near as good. My kids used to love Kraft Mac & Cheese, but since making it from scratch, they'll only just tolerate it. The ground mustard really makes a big difference in taste, and I've added a touch of curry with favorable comments. |

I haven't used magic erasers much here, but we did have some kind of magic eraser when I helped my future SIL move from her flat, we did a bunch of cleaning, and I dunno where they got them from, but they were magic, worked just like I remember the mr. clean ones working. Ah I love mr. clean, with the shiny bald head and the commercial jingle "mr. clean gets rid of dirt and grime and grease in just a minute...." |

I was dying for the blue box the other day, so I just whipped up macaroni from scratch (well, kinda - I used a jar of Dolmio "cheesy" sauce). I tossed in a couple cans of that tomato & onion tuna. And PW has a couple other mac & cheese recipes: http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2009/12/fancy-macaroni/ http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2008/05/not-your-grannys-mac-cheese/ Edited by CynicalCountess, Sep 1 2010, 11:49:59 AM.

Um, they have Macaroni and Cheese in a box here you know. I used it and it tastes the same as the US one to me. Yellow cheese packet and all. |

I'm cheap. I think $2.75 for a box of mac and cheese is wrong

No kidding. I can't believe what they charge for Mac and cheese. Any CDNS will know how good the .79 Presidents Choice white macaroni and cheese is. I never thought of having someone just send the cheese packets.....good idea. |

How much was it in the US? I only buy it on special, $2 a box for family size. Not that instant microwave one, the proper box with packet. |

That beats the $7.50 small bags of Jolly Ranchers, $12 boxes of Pop Tarts, $.80 small Reeses PB cups, and the $88 case of Dr Pepper that they sell here. We brought back about 15 lbs of candy from our last trip...Twizzlers, Tootsie Pops and Hot Tamales, yum. BTW, we saw Pepperidge Farm Tim Tams in Salt Lake City for $2. |

Check out Bunnings for the magic erase type things. I have to get construction sites in tip top shape and the kind they sell there take grubby tradie prints off anything. They had Mac and Cheese SHAPES (dinosaurs) the other day and they were $1.99 a box. Pretty good for over here. And has anyone tried the kraft cheese that comes in a box like Velveeta? I saw it on the shelf today but didn't buy it. Neosporin is great to have and the BIG plastic containers of Hidden Valley powder you can get at Sam's or BJ's last forever. I brought both over with me. |

I have tried that cheese. It's not the same as velveeta, and I just use Bega Strong and Bitey that I hand shred to melt in things. Works for me. Don't bother with it, you'll only be dissapointed:) Greg Edited by gpierce, Sep 2 2010, 10:56:10 PM.

HOT TAMALES, that is what I need my husband to bring along with poundage of California Brittle. I bought some "hot lips" here and there was nothing hot about them! |
