Hi, this is my first post here and my apology if my question has been answered elsewhere before.I went through this forum and i couldn't find the answer for all my questions (but i could have missed it too). I submitted my applications for partner visa yesterday (30th of August 2010) and i got the receipt with client ID and request id written on there. All the applications is pretty much complete (and we paid for the application too)except for the medical check up as the earliest time available for medical check up is on tuesday the 7th of september 2010. Does anyone here knows when are they going to contact me for the interview ? am i going to hear from them about the case officer or the client ID is pretty much the only thing i am going to get from them? are they going to wait for my medical check up first before they process my applications? How long will usually takes for this process to be complete? Ive been told by Australian embassy in my country that it will takes 5 months if you do it offshore and when i google it, most people said it takes 3 - 6 months if you do it onshore but somehow on the receipt that the immigration given to me, it said 6 to 8 months. Sorry for all the questions, at this point of time, i couldn't stop worrying about it and having my life hanging without knowing what is going to happen in 6 - 8 months are killing me. Thanks in advance for all the answers cheers Monica Edited by foxy, Sep 1 2010, 12:21:30 AM.

Hello, and welcome. Partner visas are highly dependent on the completeness of your application as well as your individual circumstances, and even Immigration's current processing load. It's hard to say how long it will take, which is why you're getting lots of different answers. Did you submit your health checks and police clearance certificates with the application? If not, you probably want to arrange those soon so that you can give them to Immigration sooner rather than later. How complete was your application? |

Hi, Adding in my two cents...get ready to wait and wait some more! I submitted my onshore partner visa over 3 months ago and have not heard one peep from the immigration dept. I have called a few times just to see if there is a case officer assigned yet and there was'nt one as of yesterday. Everytime I've called I have gotten different answers. Some say an CO will contact me, some say they won't, it can take 6 months or it can take 8 months. My application was complete, all police and medicals done and more! Sooo, I think that since they give themselves 6 months to complete the application it will take every bit and more of the time to get approved. Only 3 more months to go or maybe 5 more months. Not very encouraging but it's the truth. Sorry... I kind of feel like a hostage at this point but a happy one with my partner. Good luck! |

Oh man, yes, get ready to wait!! I applied onshore in Sydney March 20, 2010 and it still hasn't progressed anywhere (all documents were in by the end of April). At one point around June, I called and was told I had a case officer and they even gave me her name, email and phone number! But I never heard from her and she never returned my messages. Last week, I called immigration and they said I had no case officer--ever. I emailed the NSW Family Visa office, they just gave me an auto response email. So, 6 months and counting... They say the Sydney office takes 6-9 months but if you're applying in Perth or Adelaide, it should be quicker (or so I hear). But honestly, you can't expect anything. Immigration service is [insert expletive]! Friends of mine who've gone through it said they had 3 case officers by the time it was finished! I'm not even sure if 6-9 months is a real time line... Good luck though and hang in there!

Not necessarily! Some of us have waited 6 months in Perth. There's been only a few quick ones!

Hello. Just thought I would share my story as it relates to this post and has a similar time line. I also applied in August for my onshore defacto a the Sydney office (August 17th). The only thing missing from my application was the FBI check due to the first set of finger prints being rejected. I turned in the FBI check on October 8th in the office. I asked when I was there if there was any progress on my application (i.e. case officer assigned or anything). The person there told me there has been a major influx of applications and that there is a serious backlog and it would most likely be 9 months before it is approved. Need less to say I was very disappointed to hear that. So now it's been nearly 3 months. No word on a case officer as of yet. I just sent an email this afternoon to see if there was anything I can find out. Will keep you all posted. As my partner says...just be patient and find your self a hobby....because this may take a while. |
