Haha, I had pumpkin spice lattes on my mind too. I tried making the syrup just this afternoon. Very similar to the recipe posted, but with half a cup of mashed butternut pumpkin that I strained out at the end. Even though I've had my fill of fall/winter root veggies now, I did feel a little sad about butternuts being out of season. |

I was thinking that might add to it, too, to put pumpkin in it! How did it turn out?? They must have a longer growing season for butternuts here, because I can still buy them at Thanksgiving time, for making pumpkin pies. And every Aussie I've fed pumpkin pie to has loved it, against their best instincts

My husband refuses to even get it near his mouth. I was at the shopping centre last February and there were a group of ladies there for coffee and one of the ladies brought out this gorgeous looking pumpkin pie and the rest of the ladies were oo-ing and ah-ing over it like it was some sort of exotic concoction. It was very amusing watching them all take a first hesitant bite... and then dig right into it. |

It turned out nicely! You just want to make sure you strain out all the pumpkin, or else you get pumpkin dregs in your coffee (which isn't as nice as it sounds). The strained pumpkin would go REALLY well in a pie or in pancakes, since it's already been cooked, spiced, and sweetened ![]() I think New Zealand often has less variety (bar imports) since they don't have as much climate variation as Australia, plus I get veggies from the farmer's market and you really notice fluctuations and peak seasons there. I can still find butternuts, but not by the carton. |

I don't like it due to texture, personally. |
