Anyone belong to the American Women Auxiliary? I found an old thread (from 2007) wondered if anyone else has had any experience with the group? Is it just knitting grandmas? Has anyone been to their events?

Oh, good question! I did speak with a woman at a cafe awhile back that said her mom belongs and that it is wonderful. BUT, the woman I spoke with was likely 45 so maybe her mom is knitting grandma :) I still have it on my list of "things to do". Let me know what it's like if you go.

I am a member of AWA Melbourne and love it. I am 26 years old (living proof it isn't a bunch of grandmas). Our membership varies from 26 to maybe 85 but the average age is probably 34.
We are a social and fundraising organization celebrating our 80th year. Our social activities are a mix of both events and many activity groups such as book club, movie club, gourmet lunch group, moms and tots, gen x & y, and drinks around town that meet regularly. We have big Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Independence Day events each year among others.
We also raise money to purchase equipment for the Royal Children's Hospital by hosting 3 fundraisers each year. It is a great organization and if you want more info contact me on this forum or at awaremagazine@yahoo.com.au. -Heather
