These questions popped into my head and I wanted to ask them here. 1. Should I obtain an international driver's license during the time I am in Au on a PMV? 2. Didn't see this anywhere but was wondering about it. Would I be required to vote in Au while on a PMV? Do I have the right to vote yet at that time or do I have to wait till I am PR? (I hear that Au citizens are fined if they do not vote). Also, would I still be able to vote back home in the USA during my 9 months here? 3. Do a lot of you here have dual citizenships? If I have anymore random questions come up, I will post them here so that way I won't have threads all over the place. |

1. No need to get an international drivers licence, you can drive on your US licence till you get one here. Here's the link for SA: Driving with an overseas licence 2. No, you're not eligible to vote until you're an Australian citizen. 3. Yes, we've got quite a few dualies and quite a few more in the process right now! Edited by shylady, Oct 8 2010, 01:50:15 PM.

Should I get airline tickets and receipts notarized? Can I photocopy greeting cards? I really don't want to send in mine. If so, do I need to get them notarized too? Oh, and how long does the "love story" have to be? Thanks Edited by Kiandi, Oct 16 2010, 05:40:44 PM.

No, no need to notarize tickets, receipts, cards, and other small bits of evidence. I suppose you could photocopy cards, I just sent the cards and they sent everything back. Copies should be fine, no notary needed. The story is up to you, some people have written 7 pages, we just typed about 1 page between both of us. Whatever you feel it takes! ~Lis |

Thank you for clearing that up..... you've eased my mind once more! but the "love story", doesn't it have to be handwritten? I seem to have read that somewhere..... but that would be awesome if it can be typed. I have horrible handwriting!!!

New Question here: Now when one applies for the 2nd stage of the PMV (the 2 yr temp. visa), does the AU Immigration require one to send in the old evidence of the first visa again or do they want new evidence from the time you arrive in AU and as a married couple? @MissDixie: Yeah, I'm still waiting for my FBI results too and also thinking of sending in my Visa App. without it. I'll just send t when it comes back. I was just wondering how many ppl did it that way and what their results were.

No, they'll want new evidence: wedding pics, cards addressed to both of you, bills in both your names, etc. |

I would submit your application without the FBI check...you could wait ages and find out that your prints got rejected or some crap. I figure this way at least I am in the queue and I can get a case officer and stuff...maybe the process will take a bit longer, but I feel much better having all my paperwork submitted than sitting around waiting to apply. (Either way you have to wait!) |

Yeah, we decided to go ahead with the app. process with or with out the FBI check. I also sent two different prints to the FBI. Surely one will go through I hope. Another question. I just got my passport and birth cert. notarized at a bank. The person asked me if they had to be just a normal notary or if they had to be a guarantee notary. She said that they are different from each other. Has anyone heard of this before? Thanks for any advise Kiandi |

Hadn't heard of it, I had to google what the differences are, and either should be fine, normal is all they need.

Thanks shylady! Another question here. I have a 22 yr old daughter who just graduated college and lives with my parents and I. She is not really dependent on me and she is not migrating with me. My parents helped me raise her since she was born and they have always claimed her on their taxes. My question is, will I have to include her in the app. since immigration ask for info about dependent children over 18. I've always been her legal guardian but she was and still is dependent on my parents. I'm sorta wondering if immigration would consider her a dependent of me or not in my situation. This visa stuff is crazy!!!

how many nerves have you got left? On the 47SP application form, #38 it asks about your children... I listed my 2 adult sons who were not migrating with me. It says you only need to provide their passport details if they ARE migrating, so it's just putting their names, dob, and whether they're married. The subject never came up again. (I lodged my application the week that Joe turned 18 )

Here are some questions in the PMV that I'm not sure about. 1. Part B, Question 9: They ask about a Visa Grant #. I currently hold a ETA visa with expires in May. I obtained it from Qantas and they gave me two #'s. One is a Ticket # and the other one is a Receipt #. Both have 13 numbers in them. I called Qantas but they weren't sure which one is the Grant #. Does anyone know? 2. Part C, Question 19: They ask about an identity card/national identity card. Do they mean a S.S. Card? 3. Part C Question 32: I was wondering how other people have answered this question. Do I just guesstimate or do I need to appraise my worldly goods? Any help would be grateful...... |

okay... 1.) Since an ETA is just an "Electronic Travel Authority," it's not an actual visa, just permission to visit. So leave the visa #'s blank. 2.) You CAN put your SS# if you'd like (I did), or not... some countries like Singapore have a "National ID" card, that's what they're referring to. 3.) You know, I probably put ~$1000, since all I "brought" was 2 suitcases and the money in my pocket... Take a guess! And hang onto that last nerve.... Lis |

Oooh, so does this mean that in the question for the PMV application: "Have you or any dependent family members (migrating with you or not) previously been to Australia, held or currently hold a visa for travel to Australia?" should be answered "No", instead of "Yes", despite my fiance holding an ETA for her visit to me for three months earlier this year? So this section should just be left as "No" and the rest blank? |

ahhh, trick question! "Yes", she has previously been here, and you put in the dates and that the purpose was a visit/tourism. Is it still valid, does it have a Visa number beginning with V that you can fill in that blank? I think not. Or is the ETA# 13 digits you can put in the 2nd slot? I'd just write in ETA, because she didn't receive an actual "visa grant letter," right? Disclaimer: I believe that's what I did, but it's been 5&1/2 years and I'm old...
