What exactly is he laying on? It looks really nifty!
its a baby bouncer. dont know if you can still get that particular kind though, they were very popular when i had my kids in the 80's. its just a metal frame with a removable (mesh) covering, which can be washed or replaced very easily. they last forever!!

once the baby gets tall enough they have a habit of propelling themselves backwards by pushing off with their feet. works wonderfully well on polished floorboards, lol...
older siblings can often propel their younger siblings forward onto the floor if they are not buckled in--just ask my sister :O
