Potholes Fashion Lesson #53

Last time I was in Italy we took a day trip from Parma to Milano. Beautiful, beautiful city. Walked through the square admiring the statues, the buildings. Climbed the Cathedral (and discovered when I finally reached the top their is a bloody lift) and walked through the fashion quarter.

Fantastically beautiful women...... and yes men as well. All dressed in leather and fur and latex and of material I still could not name (well okay later when I had a few beers I had some cracker names for them). Of course my travel companions were decked out in their finest (jeans and tee shirts) and I wore what was comfortable - Stubbies, Tee Shirt and Thongs. I guess during those hours in Milano I must have made so many people happy as I have never had my photo taken so much, so many fingers pointed at me and people stopping in the street and pathways to watch me walk past, Italians, Japanese, hell even a few bloody Kiwis and Aussies.

So me little grasshoppers, Potholes Fashion Lesson #53 is Jeans are always comfortable and shorts do not travel well. Oh and never point back at the gawkers when they point at you, they do not find it amusing at all.

Cheers,

Pothole

I find it fascinating that the fashion statement for men in Australia is a fluoro shirt, stubbies, thongs or boots, fluoro socks yet the women in Australia (or at least where I live on the Gold Coast) do not even step foot in Woolies or Coles without looking like they are heading out for a night on the town.

As a woman, I have to say that I really appreciate both fashion statements even if I have a hard time living up to the women around me. :)

Hi Ambrose,

Ahhh the good ol fluro gear...... bloody OHS making that a fashion statement. Do you remember the Purple stage they went through before settling on either Yellow or Orange? That was always worth a few laughs.

As I bloke, I appreciate how women look dressed up, but geez having to wait around until their face is put on...........

Me too Ambrose & shylady...guess that's why I like camping. My favorite dinner out is fish n chips (and of course a nice white wine) on the beach with the sun going down! Simplicity at it's best ;)

Hm... my idea of camping and roughing it means a night at the Hilton.

LOL, that reminds me of a comedy routine with a line that goes: "Camping? I love camping! Camp Hilton, Camp Radisson, Camp Sheraton..."

I must be really homesick....woman dressed up.
Come down to the GC... I was at a youth group event and one of the ladies asked the other ladies about an ironing lady. Of course me being new and stupid said 'whats an ironing lady?' ... they all looked at me like I had grown another head... They quickly informed me that an ironing lady is the lady who comes to your house to do all of your ironing. I honestly thought they were joking... oh no... they weren't. Thats when I really realized that I wasn't in Kansas anymore.

So yes it might be the suburb that I live in but the women here dress very nicely all the time.

Went to lunch yesterday and dressed up for the event... got to the restaurant and felt very under-dressed in my nice skirt and top.

Hmmm Boston I think I hang out in different suburbs I have not seen a blue singlet in years  When I get back out west I love the look of jeans and RM shirts that many still wear out there. Oh god Ambrose I would be too embarrassed to get an ironing lady in....... even if I wanted. agree with your comments about down the coast, it is lovely to go visit and look at all the people dressed up to the nines, but I would feel uncomfortable wearing the Sunday best all the time (yeah and that is probably a comment on how I don't look good at the best of time :p )

I always have my swag in the back of the motor. Have been camping out since I was knee high and it will be the last thing I give up.

Cheers,

Pothole,

Ken

I agree with Ken..I'll never give up camping..I like my own stuff..don't like motels or resorts! You'd pay a fortune in a resort at some of the places we camped and we had it all to ourselves...oh the life! ;)

Ken
Is that you, checkersoz??
Seriously, you remind me of another YDU member waaaaaaay back at the beginning of the site (2002 or so). His name was also Ken. But he was from Dalby in the Darling Downs. Was a really good friend. Always wondered what happened to him...
Your posts remind me a lot him, that's all. :)

We've been there too on our way to Ayers Rock. Seemed like the last bit of civilization we went through before the outback!
