I have noticed that there are a lot of new Mexican resturants popping up everywhere, some we may not know about. Being from West Texas I know good Mexican food which here nothing will compare however there are a couple that I can suggest that are more near my standards. In Berwick there is the Mexican House, a bit high on price but the protions are suffecient. The other is a place called Montezuma's in Mentone, the food is nice but the portions are very small plus they are expensive most likely more so because they are located a few blocks from the beach.

Hi West Texan,

Montezuma's is a franchise and I have found their prices to be pretty much the same across the states I have found them. Unlike the food quality which differs vastly - Toowoomba one for instance is..........

Coyotes Saloon Bar and Grill in Bowen is just heaven and the bonus is walking down to the shore after the meal and look out across the bay to the islands :lurve:

Mexican, Italian, Russian food whatever compares less and less the further one gets from the source. Probably why I have been to Hangi parties in the UK and the US but just was no where near what I have had in Fiji, NZ, PNG or Queensland

Shhhhhhhh I will admit that the orangeish sorta cheese I had in the US is the best melting cheese I have tasted. I will categorically deny I ever said that though :p

I reckon that one could make a small fortune making and selling breakfast burritos outside the work place of a morning.

Pothole,
I understand that at one time Velveta was sold in Australia then disappeared. I think that is the one that you refer to? yes, its a darn shame because it is used in so many American recipes!

Hey mate,

Nahhh from my travels to the USA on a number of occassions :)

I still believe Valveta is still available here. Heston from Heston's feasts has a good cheese recipe for his burgers. Will post it up later.

OMG - we were in heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's more upscale and not at all cheap, and some of the stuff is a bit more gourmet than standard Mexican fare, but the flavours are SPOT ON, the margies amazing, and it's a funky place. They use all sorts of different chiles in their dishes and it seriously rocked. I think the chef lived in Mexico for some time, and there are several Mexican staff members as well.

If you want to go somewhere special for Mexican, put this on your list. And show up at 5pm on the dot b/c they don't take bookings and the line was down the stairs and out the door when we arrived at 5.

There's a pretty good one in Newtown here in Sydney. Up at the end of King St, towards City Road, called Izote.

I also found a place in Moorabbin called Mexico Lindo, its nothing flash to look at but the chef is Mexican and the food is nice. Its tucked back sort of between some industrial buildings.

I've been wondering about Mexico Lindo!! We may have to try it out - it's not far from us. Can you get beer there?

There's Aree Bah in Elwood: www.areebah.com.au

I haven't been (which is just silly since it's around the corner) but some people at work recommended it. They run good specials on different days and have margaritas. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

I can't wait to try Mamasita's! I've heard so many good things about it :) My parents will be here next week only staying down the street, but I have a feeling the Mexican food in Australia isn't what they're looking forward to trying being from so cal....But I'm so tempted to take them there anyways since I wanna go! haha
