If you remember Sees candy, how long has it been since you had some and what was your favorite one? Mine was the Bordeaux with the chocolate sprinkles!

lol AmbroseChick. We just moved here from Southern Cal in January, so, I last had some probably in December. I liked their peppermint patties and hard caramels. Yum!

Oh, my favorite by far is the Milk California Brittle. I also like the Dark Nougat, Mint Truffles, Peanut Butter Patties, and Dark Coconut. My SIL came to visit over Christmas and brought 3 lbs for me. We ate it all within a week or two. I think I need a visitor so I can eat more.

Your post actually inspired me to register so I could respond! I miss See's, but not nearly as much as In-N-Out Burger. I had to go back to the states for a month and I ate at In-N-Out nearly every day. My goal was to be totally sick of eating them so I would't miss them so much. Unfortunately, some goals are harder to reach than others...

Did you know See's is owned by Warren Buffett (Berkshire)? It has been one of his best investments. They raise their prices every year after Christmas because the customers are so loyal the price increases don't affect demand.

Locally, have you tried Haigh's? They even have little white outfits like Sees's. I talked to a friend about the outfits and apparently they were the standard candy shop uniform at the turn of the last century.

When in Dallas I always head to Rudy's for BBQ and Babe's for CFS! I don't know if you've tried Babe's but they have some of the best CFS I have ever had and they just keep bringing the food by the bowls ie; biscuits with butter and sorgum, sweet corn, mashed potatoes, gravy, and salad its just awesome!

Thanks for the info. Nothing like CFS, sweet tea, and icebox pie to remind me of my grandma!

My mother had a stroke years ago (recovered and is doing well), but one of the memories she lost was how to make my favourite pie from my childhood. I'd much rather have my mama than a pie so no worries. It is just quirky how some things are so ephemeral in life. Living abroad seems to reinforce that on an almost daily basis!

In the grand scheme I feel like I have been given so much more than I left behind that it would be petty to whinge over what was lost.

I am from Dallas but live in Melbourne...I have Rudy's Sissy sauce and Regular BBQ sauce in my fridge! Wasn't sure if they were going to let me through customs but it worked out.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this but the closest to See's style I've come across is Haighs. Same old-fashioned style with free samples. Amazing
