Hey All,

Joe and I are heading back to the States in 3 weeks for a visit - it's crazy to think that we have already been living here for almost a year!

I am putting together a shopping list of things to buy when I am there. Of course, there are the obvious ones: cheap clothing, jeans, BBQ sauce, Hersheys syrup :p

What am I forgetting? What would you buy if you were going to be in the USA in the next month?

What wouldn't I buy? Ha ha.
Pretty much everything you've listed, plus tampons (if you use them) and deodorant.

Don't forget - you have Costco opening up in Syd in July and a lot of those items can be found there. :)

My wish list:

Body spray or perfume
Socks
Shoes
underwear
bras
Aquafresh toothpaste
Crystal light - individual packets

Oh Yes Tori - I use them! I was well-warned (thank God for this site!) before I came so I still have a stack of boxes of my Playtex Gentle Glide in my linen closet!

AmbroseChick - Most definately on the bras! I have, how do you say?... *ahem* massive boobies so I am all about going to Lane Bryant to get a whole stack of them - Plus those awesome Spanx tank tops!

Crystal Light is already on my list - as is Crest toothpaste :)

Perfume is a good one - I forgot that one - Oh! and cheap handbags and sunnies!

Thanks! you are really jogging my memory here

Running shoes/work out shoes definitely! And make up, lots of make up! I always make a stop at Victoria's secret for the 5 for 25 specials if you ladies know what I mean!

I always bring back Crest toothpaste, my favourite Olay body wash and Johnson's body lotion, even after 2.5 years I still have little stashes going in my bathroom cabinents :)

Funny about the tampons, I too was well-informed from the forum about bringing along my favourite kind which I made the mistake of telling my mom about as well...well when my sister came to visit in January my mom sent her witha king size costco box and my parents were just here a few weeks ago and also brought me a king size box! I have tampons coming out of every drawer and cupboard of my bathroom!!

We leave Saturday and the list is very long - towels (taking an entire empty suitcase for those), all the toiletries and makeup, good shoes, cosmetics, undies and t-shirts, clothes....Aleve, Tylenol PM, ear plugs, mole skin, panty liners.

Chili seasoning, grits, peanut butter, aluminum foil, kosher salt, Paul Prudhomme salt free seasoning.

Happy sigh.

Some of our American friends in Melbourne have brought back really random things like Nyquil and even tongue scrappers. I'm sure when you are in the supermarket and Walgreens you'll realize certain things and fill up a whole suitcase full. We also brought back Sun-Chips once and Junior Mints, but I noticed in Sydney there were random American candies in some of the milk bars unlike Melbourne. :yaay:

I thought the same thing!!

My list gets shorter every year as I find more and more suitable substitutes (I've even - GASP - converted to roll on deodorant!!! I love the Garnier minerals one. I never thought this would happen!!). But agree with the make-up - stops at Sephora and the Clinque counter are always a must! Plus Costco to get giant bottles of Advil and Execerdin, plus razor blades and the other usual suspect that we've all mentioned haha.

Last time I did some massive online shopping before I left and had it all shipped to my mom's. I got amazing deals online and I didn't waste any precious family/friends time at the mall. Of course this only works if you know your size at that store.

I also brought home two bottles of Mrs Dash last time. I haven't found an acceptable salt-free sub for her yet. I sent this through the mail with some other stuff that wouldn't fit in my suitcase, and didn't have any customs issues. They were both sealed though.

All good ideas though... can't wait to go back myself now!

Definitely stick deodorant.
Diced green chillies.
Cosmetics, especially cleansers and creams.
Shoe inserts.

Plus I'd make use of the difference in the seasons and be buying the end of season winter clothes there, including a nice winter jacket, for use over here.

Dad returned from Colorado a couple of weeks ago and I'd ordered a great single cup drip coffee filter (actually 2 of them) for him to bring, a pair of croc boots, a down jacket, and other stuff I can't remember now, The drip coffee filters were available online here for $30 AUD plus s&h (nearly $40), I got two with free shipping to my Colorado home for $20 USD. It was a great way to put my food vacuum sealer to work, he sealed all soft stuff so he could fit it into smaller suitcases.

I should have specified...genuine heavy duty aluminum foil ;) I've bought the heavy duty here and it's super flimsy. I know it's silly.

Green chilis! Adding those.

Also excited about sales on winter clothes. And will buy a new bathing suit too since I am to the point of needing the higher end kind that tuck and lift.

Might check on a new battery for my laptop. I know it's $140 to replace here. Might be cheaper at CompUSA.

BATH AND BODY WORKS

OMG.
Oh Yes! I have the body wash on my list :)

I got 5 big things of lotion sent over for Christmas and I brought a bunch of other stuff with me; but I am using my last bottle of body wash.

Too funny, I have all the girls at work hooked on the lotions - one of our sales reps went to LA on holiday and made a special trip to the mall just to get her own stash!

We each bought 2 pairs before we left and are still on the first ones - but I am definitely buying cheap flats. I moved here with all heels and then promptly retired them as we walk to work and have 100 stairs up to our street from the ferry (this is not an exaggeration). I didn't have a single pair of flats when I got here! I've bought a few; but I hate paying so much for them - even at payless!

Agree - I see American candy more and more often here. I don't think I will waste any suitcase room on that; but I am definitely bringing tollhouse choco chips, butterscotch chips and peanut butter chips. Nothing like chocolate and peanut butter chip cookies! I made them for our office and everyone loved them - so much for Aussies not liking the choco/peanut butter combo :)

I get these all here now and have been really happy with them....

I feel you on the towels! You can get nice ones here but the price.... *swoons* Luckily I brought a ton of new ones in our container so we should be good on those.
